Greetings,

I know it's been awhile since I last wrote. I've been having fun at Boy Scout camp with my son Samuel for 5 of the 10 days of camp. I have to say it was a great time to get away and just clear out my mind. I also had a great time with the kids. I even had a chance to do some ice climbing which I had never done before. I was helping the kids at the climbing tower and on the 5th day (being my birthday), they opened up the ice climbing wall for me. So I climbed a simulated ice wall with crampons on my shoes and pick axes in my hand. I have to say it was a blast and I really enjoyed it. It's great to experience something new and exciting that I've never done before.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It's very much appreciated.

For those who attended the Mothers Refuge Open house, thanks for coming and supporting it. We had a bit of rain but then it cleared. There were many very talented performers that came and performed at this event. I was honored to be a part of that. This home helps pregnant teens who have nowhere to go. They help them to care for their baby, help them get educated and get their diploma and so much more. It's a great place that is filled with so much love. Private Parties
----------------------------------------------
A couple of weeks ago, some friends (musicians) who I haven't seen in a while called me up and asked if I could perform a private party with them. I was very excited about this and honored. These were some high caliber musicians and great people. They even learned some of my songs so I was even more appreciative and honored. It was a great party with some great people and great Bar-B-Que. We learned some great music as well.
If you are planning a party, please consider me for your entertainment needs.
Come on Out to WestPort Flea Market Bar and Grill on June 30th
Come and enjoy some of the best burgers in KC and enjoy some live entertainment. I will be performing from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. For more info check out : https://soaringsaxman.com/shows

Remembering and Honoring our Heroes....

July 4th is approaching and it's a great day of celebration. It's a celebration of the freedom we have, our independence, the signing of our Declaration of independence. This freedom we have came at a great cost. Many men died for the freedom we have who never got a chance to have that freedom. I wrote a blog about Our Gift Of Freedom. Please take a read at: https://soaringsaxman.com/blog/blog/our-gift-of-freedom.
So if you are a veteran or currently serving, I want to personally thank you for your service. I salute you. Please know that your service his very much appreciated.

Greetings and welcome summer.
It's great to see the trees in full bloom, and the sun shining after many days of rain. I hope you are enjoying the wonderful weather and enjoying the great tunes out on my site.

Music blesses us in so many ways and one of the ways I'm really feeling blessed by music is in my kids. My youngest son Samuel who is in 7th grade has been taking piano lessons from since he was very young. He recently made the 7th-8th grade jazz band and was one of two 7th graders who was able to perform with the High School Jazz band for one of their outdoor concerts. . It was so amazing to see him play. He played on "Splanky" and on "Stella By Starlight". He had a very cool piano solo on Splanky. .

My daughter, Eleanor, who is now a senior has been taking piano, violin, dance lessons from a very young age as well. She performed her senior violin recital that was just beautiful. The way she performed it's as though she was singing it. It was the first time I heard it since she's gone so much with her activities. As a dad, I am really blessed by seeing my Kids excel in music.

Performing at the Intergrity Dr's Conference
-----------------------------------------------------------
From time to time I perform many types of private parties from a dentist office to a jazz festival and just recently I performed for over 400 people at a Chiropractor conference at 8:30am on a Saturday morning. That's right 8:30am! This is considered "before hours" for musicians. But for me it was fun. I performed at one of their conferences before this one and they liked me so much they booked me for 2 more. It's a great group of people and despite the 8:30 am gig, I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Need Life and Peace ?
With all the commotion in our news and all the craziness and worries that we may have in life, wouldn't it be nice to just have some peace and feel like our lives can be filled with life? I know I do. When we have those crisis's that happen to us whether its family, work, health or something else, we tend to feel helpless and want to feel at peace. Waiting can seem like an eternity.

I was reading through Romans 8:5 today and here is what Paul writes:

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

I know for myself, I just need to allow the Holy Spirit to just have control of my mind. Sometimes I need to get me out of the way so God can work through me.

Greetings,

Hows things going for you ? Musically its been slow for me the last couple of weeks but my schedule will be picking up. This past valentines day, I had to chance to play at an alzhiemers facility as part of a church service for the patients and satff. I was honored to do this as it came up at the last minute. My Dad, suffered with Alzhiemer's for 9 years before passing so it was a joy to be there to minister to these folks. I know there's much research going on with this disease so hopefully a cure will come up soon.

I've been preparing for a Blues Brother's show that will happen at the end of April. Yes Jake, Elwood, are putting the band back together and they are traveling around in their Blues Mobile. You can check them out at: http://oneniteonlykc.net/. Also watch the schedule and www.SoaringSaxman.com/shows.
I've been also keeping up with my jazz studies and it seems endless as far as the amount of ideas, techniques and chord progressions to practice. Its great stuff, fun, but also overwhelming

Greetings and Welcome,

It's been a great past few weeks with some surprises along the way. I've been receiving some very complimentary emails from folks all over the country about my music. I do not take this for granted and I do appreciate those emails and the kind words and encouragement. Many Thanks.

Last weekend I performed 3 concerts, one of which was a surprise. I performed at a conference for a chiropractor seminar at 8:30 am Saturday morning and then again at 11:00 am. I have to say that 8:30 am is the earliest morning gig I have ever performed. Usually a sax is not what people want to hear at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning but the 400 people that showed, they all loved it. I performed at 11:00 AM and they stuck around and listened to more.

Later that day around 5:00 pm, I just happened to check my email and I received a gig lead for a private party in a very wealthy sub division. I called the person and I was on my way within an hour to do another concert. This gig was actually a very exciting gig. The people were fun and very nice. They also had a Dj and he had a laser show, fog machine all the cool stuff going while I was playing. WOW!! What a party it was. For a last minute deal, I thought it went very well. I had so much fun.

Sunday evening, ( the same weekend), I performed the 2nd concert with the "School Of Rock" for the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame show. The kids did songs from the 50's – 60's and it was a blast to perform with these kids. I had my full setup going – Alto/tenor/Soprano/Baritone Saxes, and flute. We had a great turnout and we all had a great time.

Stitch Me Back Up

I was pondering the words of Psalm 139 when David Wrote:

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
Before we physically entered this world, we were stitched and knitted and created in a perfect way. As we then entered the real world and grew older and wiser, we experienced hurt, brokenness, disappointment, etc. We may have gone down the wrong path and had to deal with the consequences. Some of us may have been hurt so much we can't experience love. Wouldn't it be nice if we can get stitched back up to the way God had us before we entered the world? Ever think on how we would be or lives would be where we can be and think the way God created us without all the baggage? Well God is able to do that and he wants to do that for us. Here is an excerpt from Psalm 139 :

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139

Jamming With The School Of Rock Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Greetings,

I hope the New Year is treating you well. What New Years resolution have you made? How are you doing at keeping it?

I've been busy preparing for the School Of Rock Concert that's coming up here soon in. I had one rehearsal with the kids and I am excited being a part of this show. These kids are fun to work with and have the energy. It will be a Rock'n 50's show. Two shows on Jan 22, and Jan 29. Please check it out at https://soaringsaxman.com/shows.

Last week I had the honor of performing a gospel version of "When The Saints" for a man's funeral. I never got a chance to meet him personally but he and his family was very familiar with my music. They have heard me perform at a church and really enjoyed it. I was honored and touched by this to perform at his funeral. This man loved music of all types and "When The Saints" was one of his favorites.

This time of year tends to be slow for me but I am getting calls for gigs later in the year. I'm looking forward to a great year. I am still keeping up on learning more Jazz and trying to improve my skills. One practice method I like to use is to find something I can't play or a lick I can't play and then work it until I get it. Sometimes it doesn't always sound pleasant and my family at times has to suffer through it. That's why they call it practicing. That's how musicians improve.

Thanks for hanging with me and your support. Please keep the emails coming and remember to Bless others by praying for our leaders as the inauguration day approaches.

Be Blessed.
Sincerely,
Dave

Democrats, Republicans or God – Part 2?
---------------------------------------------------------------
In my last newsletter I received many comments about a blog I wrote called Democrats, Republicans or God ?. This is part 2 of this blog. You can read the 1st part at http://soaringsaxman.com/blog/blog/democrats-republicans-or-god

So I hope you have had or will be reading 1st Kings and 2nd Kings in the bible. How's is your prayers going ? Have you been praying for our leaders, the new leadership, the new congress ?

Some may say that they don't want to pray, or maybe some believe that certain people don't deserve prayers. Well, I would like to address these issues so maybe after reading this you may have an incentive to pray.

1) What if that person does not deserve our prayers?
I guess if we really hate that person we don't want to pray for them but we need to ask ourselves "Who are we to decide that someone doesn't need prayers?" Jesus died for everyone so we would ALL have a chance for heaven and forgiveness. If we pray for someone and they turn to good, then it's a win situation and that's the goal. We may find it hard to love another but not Jesus. We're all sinners.

2) What if the person is good and is doing everything perfect ?
GREAT!! We still then need to pray for these people so they keep on doing good and not get drawn into corruptness and evil.

3) What if the person is really mean and has really wronged you ?
In addition to reason 1, Look at Romans 12:20:

If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

I like the part about heaping burning coals on their head. That should give some satisfaction.
So now there's no reason not to pray. If you feel you really can't pray or don't want to then let
Me know so then I can pray that you will pray.

Thanks for your support and your emails. Be blessed and bless others by praying for our leaders.

Democrats, Republicans or God ?

What a turmoil it's been with this past election. This past election has created so much division and hate. Normally you don't see these kinds of reactions from an election. So many ask ourselves what happened? Even the news people are asking what happened? Totally unexpected.

I want to challenge you to read through the book of Kings and Kings 2 in the Old Testament in the bible. I'll summarize it here.

God tells his people that he wants to be their King. God already proved to them that he can provide and protect them. After all he led them out of slavery across the desert and provided for their every need. The people's response to God was NO we want a human king to lead us so God gave the people what they wanted. So Many kings came and went over a period of many years and just about all of the human kings were corrupt and did evil in the eyes of the Lord. The people got what they wanted.

So this election had choices on the ballot that most of us were not happy with but we still had a responsibility to vote and someone was going to be elected. So now our country faces some uncertainty where some are feeling scared. I, You, all of us now have a great responsibility and that is to PRAY! . PRAY for our government and leaders. It does not matter who you voted for of even if you voted, We need God to hear us. God is able to turn the minds of our leaders toward his will. God's decision and his wisdom would be the best for ALL. Please understand that I am not here choosing a political side.

If you choose not to pray, then you have no reason to complain. Protests will only go so far, but God can do more than what you can ever imagine. So who is on your ballot? Democrats, Republicans, Independents or God? God is always available and never has term limits...

Be Blessed and help bless others by praying for our leaders.

Sincerely,

Dave

Project Rescue was a big success. Many people showed up for the run/walk and the proceeds went all to help free young women/girls from sexual slavery. I'm so honored to be a part of this. It just makes me sick and sad to think what these young girls have to go through. The weather was perfect and thanks to all who showed up and supported this. Even my friend /guitar player Chuck drove 3 hours to come and play for this event. It was great to play with him. People loved the music, the food, the weather, it was all good.

Greetings and welcome,

The last few weeks were very exciting and wonderful. The Nehemiah Fest turned out to be a very wonderful event. The weather was perfect and the music was great along with all the wonderful people I met. A band had to cancel so I was able to perform for an hour. I received many positive reviews. Each Year this event keeps growing and it's very exciting to experience that. It's totally FREE so if you have not checked it out then put it on your list for next September.

As a last minute gig, I was asked to perform at a private party and one of the fancy hotels down on the Kansas Side for a Bourbon, Blues, and Barbecue event. I had a blast and everyone loved the music.

My wife and I were able to enjoy a short little vacation along the Connecticut coast which was a very beautiful experience. The occasion was that my nephew got married so I was able to see my immediate family and meet a bunch of other folks and really enjoy the beautiful surroundings. It was a very picturesque view. The wedding was held outside by a winery and the weather was wonderful until the sun went down and then it got a bit cool. But it was all fun.

The following days after the wedding, my wife and I explored the town of mystic seaport to walk through time back to the 1800's. We walked through the village and went aboard some of the old whaling ships that were used during that time period when they hunted whales for oil. It was very interesting and enjoyable. I love the old ships and the history they carry.

On Another day we walked along the beach and got our feet into the ocean. It's been a long time since I've seen the ocean and it quite wonderful to see it again and the water wasn't too bad. Out in the distance, we were able to see the shore of Long Island. Very cool trip. While I was out on the trip. I actually got called for a last minute gig. I had to turn it down...

OURGift OF FREEDOM Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Greetings and Happy 4th of July to you and your family especially if you are a vet and have served our country. We would not have the freedom we have in our country if it wasn't for the sacrifice that our soldiers made and the dedicated prayers of our founding fathers. This freedom did not happen without prayer and sacrifice. A BIG THANK YOU!!

Also a BIG THANKS for all the birthday wishes. It's much appreciated.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
KC PLAZA GIG
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been very busy the last few weeks and I had some great gigs along with being out of town.
On June 16th I performed out on the KC plaza with a live band. It went over very well and we had some great jams. I love performing with a live group whenever I get the chance. Thanks for those who stopped by . We performed right in front of a yogurt shop and we were luckily in the shade. It was the coolest place in town. I went up to the tables and performed for the people. They enjoyed it and were very appreciative.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
ZONA ROSA GIG
---------------------------------------------------------------------
One week later I performed outside at the Zona Rosa shopping center, (with the same group), and there was a large number of people that showed up. It was a perfect evening for sitting in the park, watching the fountains and eating a meal outside on the patio of some of the restaurants. The gig went over very well. I had many people purchase my cd's. I had young kids come up and they seemed to be totally fascinated with the sax. Their eyes got big and smiles appeared across their faces. I received many great compliments. At these gigs, I perform many of my original songs. It's great to know that people enjoy them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Playing With Turkey Bone
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I had the opportunity to sit with in a great R&B band called Turkey Bone at Johnny's BackYard here in KC. They needed a sax player and I got the call. It was an exciting gig sitting in with some great musicians and meeting some new people. I had a great time.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Boy Scout CAMP
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I mentioned I've been out of town. My youngest son was on a 10 day Boy Scout camp in central Missouri. It's called Bartle Boy Scout camp. I spent about 4 days with him there and then had to get back to the Zona Rosa gig. . It's really nice to get back to nature and just unwind and give time to let my mind clear. They have some pretty cool activities like Archery, Paint Ball, BMX Bike, Rock Climbing, Rifle Shooting and more. And not to mention the awesome peach floats! YUM!!

One sad thing for me is that the restaurant, Bourbon Street, Is closing. I was performing there 2x per month and really enjoying it. I enjoyed going around to the tables and performing not only for the adults but the kids as well. The people really enjoyed it too.. So I am sad to see it closing. I'm hoping for another opportunity to open.

--------------------------------------------------------
OUR GIFT OF FREEDOM!!!
--------------------------------------------------------
When we think of freedom, what do we think of? Some may think freedom means doing whatever we want without no rules or limits. Some others may being free from a controlled environment. But when we think about freedom of doing whatever we want, that type of "freedom" leads to bondage and destruction and in some in cases slavery. The very thing we want to avoid. Think about it, If a person wants to drink alcohol and drive, (freedom to do what they want), that can lead to loss of life, loss of limbs, being paralyzed.. Is this freedom?? This is bondage. That type of freedom puts you in a box. True freedom has limits and boundaries. God created humans and he showed us and gave us a manual on how we should live our lives. That manual is called the bible. Yes it has rules and instructions on how we are to live but living by those rules gives us total and true freedom. When our law makers make laws that are contrary to God's laws or when we disobey God's laws, those decisions usually have consequences that can lead to bondage and destruction. Here is just a sample of some wisdom of the bible. The bible says we should get wisdom at any cost. This is what wisdom does for us::

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
--Proverbs 14:12

Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.
--proverbs 1:19

(Gaining Wisdom)
for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.
--proverbs 3:2

(Get Wisdom at Any Cost)
for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body.
--Proverbs 4:22

Enjoy the freedom you have. It is a gift from God. He wants us to live in the freedom he gave us. Use it to benefit others. Remember true freedom does have boundaries and that is for our benefit.

Be blessed.

Schlitterbahn !! Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Yesterday, I performed out at Schlitterbahn Water Park for the Lifted up and Family day. It was a perfect day. The temperature was a hot 95 degrees which makes for a perfect day for splashing around and enjoying the water slides and lazy river. I had a good performance at Schlitterbahn and thankfully I was under a pavilion that provided shade. As people were walking by, I saw them dancing and smiling. That's always a good sign. I've been playing there for the last several years and I hope it continues. I know the staff really enjoys having me.

After I finished my performance, I was ready to get wet and so I did. It felt so good. My family came by and we had a great time going down the Verruckt which is the tallest and steepest water roller coaster. You have to climb up 264 steps to get to the top, (taller than Niagara Falls). My wife didn't go on it but both my son's myself and a friend did. It's an awesome experience.

Check out this video that a good friend of mine, Karla Bauer, videotaped me while I was performing:

some incredible jams Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Greetings and Welcome,

Well it's been busy exciting and crazy all at the same time all in a good way. I am getting booked for many opportunities here around the KC area. Some of these gigs will be with a full band so I am excited about this. ( Check out my music schedule at http://soaringsaxman.com/shows)

I always enjoy performing with other musicians and the last couple of weeks have been great for that. Last Thursday I heard about an open jam at a bar in my area so I went and checked it out. There were 3 guys performing some country pop music and then they had the open jam. Being a sax player, I think it was a new thing for the people there because the bar mainly has country/rock music. So I got up there with these amazing musicians and others and it was quite a jam. One of the best jams I had. The people were all hooting and hollering. They loved it. I felt as musicians we all clicked on the stage musically which really showed. I was jamming for over 2 hours and it didn't even seem like it. They invited me to come back again.

The week previous to that, I went out to the Blues club Knuckleheads. Some of the best blues players in KC were there and I was honored to get on the stage with them and man we put on a show. The people were cheering. The energy level was incredible and many people came up afterwards to talk. It was a beautiful day and the jam was outside.

I'm still performing at Bourbon Street restaurant and it's always fun especially with kids around. One time when I was performing, there were 2 girls ages 6 and 7 and I performed some Disney songs "Kiss The Girl" ( from Little Mermaid) and then "You've Got A Friend In Me" (from Toy Story). They loved it and were all giggles. They were dancing and singing. Their parents were smiling the whole time as well.

Lately I've been getting more interested in rock climbing. I always enjoyed rock climbing and have been doing It on and off for the last several years. Since my youngest son is in boy scouts, I signed up to become a level 1 climbing instructor at the Boy Scout camps for the rock climbing tower.. I had to attend a weekend training and volunteer twice at the climbing tower at the Naish Boy scout camp. I completed the requirements this past weekend. For me it's a lot of fun to help these young kids as they first venture into rappelling off a 50 ft tower. They are nervous at first and then afterword's, you can tell it was so much fun for them. The view on top of the tower is really neat as well because we're above the trees. I've been hitting the climbing gyms and really enjoying the exercise.

Happy New Year - Don't Waste the Blessing Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Greetings and I hope the New Year is going great for you so far. Thanks so much for the emails and comments. They are very encouraging. I appreciate the responses and feedback from all of you.

It's now the New Year and now most of us try to get back in the swing of things and keep those New Year's resolutions at least for the first couple of weeks. I hope you all had a great Christmas and great New Year.

The week before Christmas got real busy for me in a good way. I performed 5 gigs in 24 hours spanning 400 miles. I had one gig come up at the last minute in Manhattan, KS (Go K state fans) on Saturday. The host of this party blessed me greatly. Besides the great meal, and paying me, they offered to buy every couple there one of my cd's. So I did well on cd sales.

Sunday I performed at the Church and then 2 gigs in Lawrence, KS (go KU fans) , at an assisted living home. I performed many Christmas songs and it was great to see these people who have physical ailments, brighten up and start singing along with the songs. They really enjoyed it. That too was a blessing for me.

That Sunday evening, I performed at party back in Kansas City. This was a Church party where I performed at a few years ago and they remembered me and brought me back. I was thankful that they asked me to play again.
I loved every minute of these travels. I loved meeting the people, the food, and the opportunities. It was all good and the people loved my performances. When I came home Sunday night I was tired. My youngest son's birthday was at the same time all these gigs were going on so I spent some time with him.

During Christmas, we drove to the Chicago area to visit my family. Even though it was a long drive, it was a god time seeing my family and having my kids spend time with their cousins which they don't do too much. One thing I really enjoyed is spending time downtown Chicago and eating some of the best Pizza around. We hit Giordano's one day and then Gino's east the other. Awesome pizza. We also spent time at the Museum Of Science and Industry which is one of my favorite museums in Chicago. I remember going there on field trips when I was in school. It's great to see how they have kept it updated.

------------------------------------------
Don't Waste The Blessing..
-------------------------------------------
How many times have we received something where we may have taken it for granted or we may without realizing it left some of the blessing behind and missed out? I'm sure this has happened to me more than once. We just celebrated Christmas and many gifts were given and if we are honest, some gifts we may be disappointed in. I'd like to share a story from the bible about when Jesus fed 5000 people with 2 fish and 1 loaf of bread. This is recorded in John 6 verse

10: Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there).
11: Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12: When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted."
13: So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

After the 5000 people had eaten, Jesus tells his disciples to gather the left over pieces and let nothing be wasted. Jesus did not say why or what the left overs would be used for. There were no refrigerators in that day so food would spoil quickly.

There was very little to start with. Jesus gave thanks and then the blessing was multiplied until the point where everyone was full. There was even extra. Now the people may have walked away from the left overs but Jesus said do not let nothing be wasted. The extra blessing was there and the people could have missed it.

Be aware of the blessings in your life and don't waste them. Don't leave any behind either or you'll miss out on something great. Every Day is a new day so don't waste it.

Thanks for being a fan

A HUMBLE CHRISTMAS

Welcome and greetings for it's "The best Time Of Year". The Lights, the dιcor, the music, the parties and the joy that it all brings. I really enjoy the Christmas season. It tends to be my busiest time of year and I really enjoy performing all the great Christmas music in the Jazz style. People love it!!! I regularly get many positive comments.

This past week I performed at a private party for Citizens Bank of Leavenworth. They book me every year which I am very thankful for. They always have a great party and are very wonderful people.

I also performed at the Bingham Wagoner Mansion where it was all decorated very nicely in the style of a "Charles Dicken's Christmas". It so neat to play Christmas music in this type of atmosphere. I performed in the music room.

On Sunday Dec 6, I performed with the Jazz band at my Church (Northland Cathedral - http://northlandcathedral.org/) for the Home missions. This included a huge feast for everyone and the jazz band played some great Jazzy Christmas music. On this particular Sunday, the church supports missions and gives gifts and money to support various churches. It's always so much fun and exciting to perform for this event.

Last Friday I performed at a great Bar-B-Que place here in KC called "The Stack". Again the people loved the performance and I enjoyed some great Bar B Que. Check them out http://www.thestackbarbq.com/.

--------------------------------------
Upcoming Event:
--------------------------------------
On Sunday Dec 20 at 6:00pm is an event you don't want to miss. At the church Northland Cathedral (http://northlandcathedral.org/), This is where the church puts on a very excellent Christmas concert featuring the choir, the orchestra, the Jazz Band and various soloists. There will be plenty of Music variety to appeal to all tastes. The best part is that this is FREE!! So put it on your calendar.

A Humble Christmas
----------------------------------------------------------
This past week I was touched by a story that made some news about a letter to Santa that was found in a Chimney 60 years after it was written. The boy wrote it asked for the following:

Dear Father Christmas,
Please can you send me Rupert Annual and a drum, box of chalk, soldiers and Indians, slippers, silk tie, pencil box, any little toys you have to spare.
Love, David

I was touched by how humble this boy was when he wrote it. Obviously this was a different time but the humility is what was touching and something I think we have gotten away from. Today it's about Black Friday, Give me the ipad, the xbox, etc.. I even heard that some mall in Chicago was charging an extra fee just so kids can jump the line to see Santa so they don't have to wait like everyone else. Personally I find this tasteless and disgraceful. It's sad on we are losing the real meaning of Christmas.

Christmas is about giving but more so it's about giving in a spirit of humility or sacrificially. Christmas is about Jesus. Now I know this name "Jesus" stirs a lot of controversy even to the point where a federal judge has to tell a high school play they can't have a nativity scene in their play. (Really ? Come On..). Anyway, God gave his son Jesus to pay the ultimate sacrifice of his death so that you and I do not have to spend eternity in a place of nonstop suffering. This was a paid ransom in advance. The human birth of Jesus is why we celebrate Christmas. God gave up his son Jesus sacrificially. This is something we all should continually be thankful for. You may not realize it now but someday, the xbox, HDTV, Ipad, etc will not matter. The only that will is what you did with your life to help others and acknowledging that Jesus is Lord.

I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Thanks for being a fan

Sincerely,

Dave

Raising Money for Sex trafiicking Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Greetings ,
Well it's been a great past few weeks. I've been a part of some pretty exciting gigs that I would like to share with you. I perform with a classic rock band called Copper Field Station and we did a fund raiser out at Deer Creek Golf Course. We had a great turnout and the folks loved the music. There was great Bar B Que and a great fireworks display later in the evening.

My daughter Eleanor sings at a Presbyterian church in which she also receives free voice lessons from the worship minister. He's been doing amazing things with her voice. I had the privilege of ministering at the service while my daughter was singing in the choir. It's was a great joy from a "Dad's" perspective and an honor to serve with a great choir.

Last weekend I performed at "GladFest" , and this is always a fun event. It was a great turnout and many folks were dancing to my tune "Pump'N". I saw a little girl about 4 or 5 yrs of age sitting with her mom. I tried to get her to dance with me but she refused. I kept making faces at her and I did get her to start giggling so that was cool. Her mom was laughing as well.

This past week was mission's week at our church. One exciting time I had was I had the honor of performing with the kids at the mid-week service. My youngest son Samuel was playing the shaker so from a Dad's point, It was a joy to perform with my son and it was also great to be a part of the kids service. I also performed at the 5k run/1k walk to help raise money for sex trafficking. I performed many of my songs with a live band and people just loved t. It was a great event and great to be a part of it.

Thanks so much for being a fan.

Tasty Treat Makes #1 Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Greetings

Well It's almost time for school and the fall will be here before you know it. Some great things have been happening in the last few weeks. I performed out at the KC Fringe Fest a few weeks ago at the Uptown Arts Bar. It was a great time and the people that came had fun. Prior to me playing was a guitarist who invited me to sit in with him. I always like to sit in with other musicians. I seem to fit right in and the croed loved it. .

Last week I performed as a roving performer downtown at the KC Power and Light district. The event was called Urbana. It was a huge event where they had all kinds of acts, music, food, etc. My role was to just walk around and play. So that's what I did.. People actually loved it. The band that was performing on one end, even invited me to sit in with them on a few songs. The band loved it as welkl as the people. Some other cool acts were the live madigans and the juggler.

I've been making some great contacts and there will be some exciting projects that I will be involved with in the next few weeks.

Greetings $first_name,

I hope your summer has been going well. These last few weeks have been exciting and busy for me. My youngest son spent 10 days at a Boy Scout camp in central Missouri. I attended the first 5 days and I admit it was somewhat relaxing and nice to be out in nature but I did not enjoy the 30 hour non stop rain. That to me was rough but when the rain stopped it was a relief. My son said he had a great time the next 5 days.

Come on out to the KC Fringe Fest!!!
On Thursday July 24th, 2015 I will be performing at the KC Fringe Fest at the Uptown Arts Bar in Kansas City. Get Tickets at http://kcfringe.org/dave-panico/. Please Come on out!!

Let's Get Jazzed With Miss America!!
This past week I performed at a fund raiser for Battered Women and domestic violence. This was held at Arrow Head Stadium where the KC Chiefs play. Many people showed up for this event and one of the special guests was Kira Kazantsev who is 2015 Miss America. She spoke on how she is passionate about helping children, women against sexual abuse and domestic violence. There was also live auctions where they raised a good amount of money. It was a great event to be a part of.

Sclitterbahn..
-----------------------------------------------------
This past weekend I performed at Schlitterbahn water park. It turned out to be a great time. Before I performed it was cloudy and started raining, When I came on the stage, I told folks that I was going to blow the clouds away and get the sun to shine. Sure enough, after my first song "Break'n Free", the clouds separated and there was sunshine. This actually isn't the first time this has happened. There has been other times I've been in this situation and have seen this happened. God gives the sun but even more importantly God gave us his son - Jesus.

When I performed the song "Pump'N", People were dancing and having a great time. I received many compliments afterwards.

After I performed I headed right towards the world's tallest waterslide - Verruct. It was an awesome time. My family had a great time as well. The weather was perfect and the water was pleasant.

I hope the New year is going well for you. How's your New years resolution going ? Did you even have one ?

Well it's been busy and very exciting for me. I've been hanging out with a bass player I met at an-other gig and I found he teaches Jazz. So I have been taking some lessons from him to sharpen my skills. It's been really good and I feel it has been helping me just in the few lessons I have had. I'm really excited about this. My oldest son indicated to me that he didn't think I needed lessons. That was good to hear but it's the more you know, then you realize the more you don't know. We've been disecting the blues, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gilespie. It's been somewhat of an eye opening experience. I've been woodshedding the material very heavily.

Today at Church I performed the song called "Make A JoyFul Noise" with the choir. It's a very upbeat song and it's one that will get you out of your seat. I always enjoy performing with a choir.

Happy New Year Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Well I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and new Years. I sure did. It's great enjoying the time off, the food, the people and now we face that Monday when everyone is back to work.

Well I had a great time New Years Eve performing with the classic Rock'n Roll group Copper-FieldStation. We performed out at Conroy's Irish Pub and we had a blast. We had a great crowd to really make the evening enjoyable for all of us. Many thanks to those who showed up and par-ticipated in singing and dancing.

Last night I sat in with a friend of mine who is a really great guitarist. His name is Charles David Smart and he was performing at Homer's coffee house. I sat in on the 2nd set and we had a blast. One of the people he had was an accordion player so I think that's a first for me sitting in a band with an accordion player. He was good and we had fun. The crowd enjoyed us as well.

One of the highlights of the Christmas season for me is when our church, (Northland Cathedral ), puts on its annual Christmas show which features great talent from its School of Music. There were choirs, fiddlers, men's quartet, and the jazz band in which I am a part of. It's so fun for per-forming at this event and many people showed up. I really enjoyed performing the piece "Christ-mas Time is here" with one of our wonderful female vocalists. It turns out that evening when I was ready to perform "Christmas Time Is Here", there was no music on my stand for that. So this made it a bit interesting. I still performed it without music and the response from the people was that it was an amazing performance. I think I do better by not having music sometimes. Somehow, I think God wanted me to perform it this way. I look forward to this event every year.

Earlier that day I performed at an assisted living center which went very well and the people loved it as well.

CD Update:
The mixes have been finalized and the songs will be going to mastering very soon. Please keep praying on this. Many Thanks for your prayers..

Enjoy the New year. Make it better than last year by trying to be a better person than you were last year. I will try and do the same. Thanks so Much for being a fan ...

The ISIS CRISIS Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Welcome and greetings and Happy halloween to all. The fall colors are here and the colors seem very vivid and bright this year. It's great to see the different color leaves color the yard.

Well I've been busy sending out my press kits and getting ready for Christmas. Yes I am in the process of preparing Christmas songs. I have some pricvate parties lined up. For me it seems a bit early but Christmas will be here before you know it. I have some great gigs coming up so I'm looking forward to it.

I'd like to share a quote from a lady who uses my music for her fitness class.
" A positive "feel-good" sound! It makes you want to get healthy and stay that way! "

So next time you're on that stationary bike or doing the aerobics, put on some "Samba" or "Bum-ba-Way" . It'll make you feel great.

Concert News:
------------------------------
Last week at my church I had a chance to perform for a fund raiser which involved a 5k, 1k run/walk. We had a great turn out. The weather was just perfect and the food was great as well. I performed with a band during the lunch and it went over very well. People loved it. The fund raiser was for a group called Operation Rescue which rescues young girls from sexual slavery. To date this group has rescued over 31,000 girls. It's great to be a part of stuff like this.

CD Update:

The songs are still being mixed and are sounding good so please keep praying on this. Many Thanks for your prayers..

The Pink Ribbons

In my last news letter I mentioned that my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a shock to us but she has had her first chemo treatment and has been doing fine so far. She mentioned to me yesterday that she does not even notice the lumps anymore. This is great news but she still has a whole year of treatment. Only 5 more chemo tretaments and then other forms of treatment thereafter.

Hey Baseball Fans
------------------------------
The world series is over and it was exciting. I was so much hoping for the Royals to win and they almost did. It is ironic however that earlier this year I took my two son's to see a baseball game here in KC. For my youngest, it was his first pro ball game and KC was playing Oakland. At that time Oakland had the best recrd in baseball and I told my son's that they will probabbly see a world series team. I did not know then that KC would end up in the world series. That night was the night they moved into first place. It was interesting because when I was looking at getting tickets, I was choosing between the KC - Oakland game or the KC - San Francisco game.

The ISIS CRISIS
------------------------------
This whole Isis thing has been probably the worst crisis we are dealing with. This evil has no bounds or limitations and what's sad is we all help support it because it's supported by oil and we all use oil every day when we fill our gas tanks. Some of us feel helpless , some of us want to drop the bomb. It's very frustrating and sad. Even though governments around the world are doing all they can, please know that there is a part we all can play as well. The most powerful thing we can do as nations is to pray. Prayer can be more powerful than physical weapons if we all join together. The magnitude of evil that drives Isis is the devil. The only one who can defeat the devil is God and God can use people to overcome this wickedness.

Here in Ephesians 6, it talks about the struggle:

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against powersof this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

The verse continues and talks about the putting on the full armor of God. It's interesting that the attack weapon that is mentioned is the word of God which is referred to as the "Sword of the Spirit"

Listen also to what Paul writes in Romans 12:17 - 21

" Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of eve-ryone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary:

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

God's word says he will repay this evil so lets all send burning coals on the heads of ISIS!!

Performed with my daughter's 8th grade choir Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

I had a wonderful enjoyable evening last night performing with my daughters 8th grade honor choir. Her choir is amazing and one of the best in KC. They performed 13 songs and the very last song was called "Swingin With The Saints". This piece was written by someone here in KC. It's a New Orleans dixieland style piece which
combines the two songs "When The Saints" and "Sweet Chariot". A few months ago my daughter, after talking with the choir director, wanted to know if I'd be interested in performing clarinet on this. I was excited and so I spent lots of time preparing. It was so much fun and people loved it. It was a treasure for me to perform with her choir. I also had a chance to perform with her choir when she was in 5th grade.

I'm headed out to Piropos later tonight to do some Jazz'n

I'll be heading to Nashville this week to record songs for my 3rd cd...

Comments from house Party I performed at Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

I performed a house party in St Louis and it was so much fun. Here are some comments that were made by Mr Ken Whiteside who happens to be on the board for the Miles Davis Jazz Festival (MDJF). I performed for the MDJF a couple of years ago..

"Bumbaway a delightful song he composed after humming to his kids in the car and adding what they hummed in response"

"Samba, with a Brazilian flavor on alto and flute, including excellent triple trilling on flute"

"Winelight, Grover Washington, Jr.'s 1980 soft jazz anthem that is difficult to play, and Dave nailed it"

"Bye Bye Blackbird, that had a dozen or so singing the chorus"

"Green Haze, a lesser-known restive Miles Davis blues that Dave performed at the 2010 MDJF in Alton and absolutely nailed in this take"

"Georgia on My Mind, his show-stopper at the 2010 MDJF that again earned him a standing ovation"

'..And BTW, for any who have not heard this man play--correct that oversight as soon as possible!'

Great time at the St Louis Art Fair Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

Well I had a wonderful time at the St Louis Art Festival this past weekend. It was great weather and a great crowd. I met some really wonderful people. I thought it was ironic that I performed on 9/11. It was kind of cool in a way. One of the songs I performed was "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler. I performed it as a tribute to the heroes of 9/11. I sensed it touched some nerves. When you thing abot it, A hero isn't one who wears a cape but is someone who encorages, helps the less fortunate, teaches, provides.. So really YOU are that hero..

One thing I thought was cool is that I saw a couple of young girls sitting and listening to me perform. I asked them how old they were and they said they were 15. I then asked them on what kind of music do they listen to , they said the kind I'm playing -- Smooth Jazz, etc.. I thought this was cool. My daughter who is 12 hates jazz and is into the "Justin Beber" /pop stuff.. So it's great to see young people appreciating different styles of music.

A very cool day at the waterpark... Subscribe To My News (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

I had a great time playing at Schlitterbahn waterpark. God showed up in a very cool way.

Before it was my turn to take the stage, there was a band called Vehicle Oasis that played. I was sitting in back of the stage and I was really enjoying their music. They had great worshp music and I was just worshiping while Vehicle Oasis was playing. Their was one song that really touched me. Itwas about surrendering to God. As I was listening to it,I heard some sweet sax in it. So I had a crazy thought and asked God about it. God was in on it so I pursued it. After Vehicle Oasis got through playing,I went up to the lead singer Dan and introduced myself and told him how I enjoyed their music. I then pursued my crazy thoughtand asked Dan if he and the band would be willing to come up and play the surrender song with me adding some sax to it. He was open to it and agreed. I was excited. When it was my turn on stage,I played a few of my songs and then asked vehicle oasis to come up and play the Surrender song. It went smooth and sweet. Itwas an awsome experience. On the spot improv.. God showed up. all of us were just like WOW!!!..

Vehicle Oasis is a band out of South Texas. I never met them before this event and never performed with them previously. When God shows up and the Anointing is there, powerful stuff happens....
