How I Wrote My Song "Holy Holy is the Lord"~
~As a songwriter, Contemporary Christian artist and worship leader, I've learned that I don't always have the time to sit and write my songs, although many songs come out of my early morning devotions and walk with the Lord. In spite of my struggles with fear and oppression, I run to that secret place in my heart where I can worship the Lord in the refuge of His loving arms. No matter what state I'm in, whether physical pain, fear, grief, some kind of suffering, etc...., there is this place. An access into a secret spiritual realm where I can enter. And as I find myself in the safety of this "holy refuge", words begin to flow to an unfolding melody in my head, "Holy Holy is the Lord, High and lifted up, Savior of the world! ......"

~A year and a half ago, my husband and I took a trip up to Mt. Rainier, Washington. Even though I had my guitar with me, I only had time to play it once on the week long trip. Dealing with things in my personal life such as rejection, oppression, emotional pain, fear, heartache... I found myself staring out at the beauty of these majestic mountains before me, as if they were beckoning me to come. And though fearfully magnificent in nature, there is the awesomeness of a Creator God, who is far more MAGESTIC than any mountain, created and painted by a single brush of His eyelash....

Overwhelmed by the beauty before me, the Spirit was impressing upon my heart about His holiness, how we approach Him, coming into His Presence acknowledging the Most High Creator God of the universe. And by the shedding of His blood, Jesus, God's only begotten Son, with one last breath on a cross, died for the many. And ONLY by the shedding of His blood, the perfect sacrifice, the Lamb of God was slain for us. Now, we can humbly enter with gratefulness and adoration, and praise to the One who has delivered us from darkness, pulling us out of the pit of destruction, and transferring us into His marvelous light, His eternal Kingdom, forever and ever, Amen. He sees us as we are, our naked humanity and depraved condition. Out of His love and compassion, stretching out His beckoning hand toward us, we reach up and take a firm hold of His strong hand, consciously by faith confessing Him our Lord and Deliverer, the Savior of the World....

From my trip to Mt. Rainier, my song began to emerge into reality, to the guitar and out of my mouth flowed the words, "Holy Holy is the Lord, High and lifted up, Savior of the world...". SO. No matter where I am, what state I am in, no matter what I am going through, there is this secret place, a holy refuge, where I can find rest and safety in the arms of a loving God, singing and making melodies in my heart to the One who loved me saved me....

~As I listen to christian radio today, we hear more songs about the holiness of God, and the book of Revelation has come to light more than ever before. My worship tune, "Holy Holy is the Lord " is a sweet expression of scripture of what I believe the Spirit is saying to the Church. During the past year and a half I've been blessed to share this song in the churches of my community and abroad, witnessing true elevated praise and adoration to our Lord, a confirmation, that the Holy Spirit is moving through the Body of Christ. Amen. ~ by Terri Shamar

~ Laying the Foundation of the Called Worship Leader/Songwriter/Composer ~

The Calling As Worship leader/Songwriter/Artist~
It's just not about singing and writing songs. To write a worship song, the foundational groundwork has to be laid. True "worship defined" is loving God the Father and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, with the very intimate core of our being, our heart, our mind, and our very soul, honoring Him with a lifestyle that is pleasing to Him in every area of our lives, every waking day that you have breath. And because He loved us first, and willingly died for us when we were yet sinners, we come to Him with a grateful heart, worshipping Him in total love and adoration. As we die to self, and trusting God to fill in the gaps by His sovereign mercy and grace, we live His word to the very fullest with confidence, treasuring His word in our hearts (Ps.119:11). Believing by faith His word is true and absolute, is to worship Him in Spirit and in truth. And without faith, it is impossible to please Him. And because He is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, we humbly come before Him to worship Him for who He is. For He is God and there is no other. Amen. ~by Terri Shamar

My songwriting~ comes from my relationship and walk with God, how I relate to Him, how I hear His voice speaking to me, how I pray and commune with Him every day, being purified by fiery trials and how He brings me through them, spending time with Him in the secret place resting in His arms, how He answers my desperate prayers, all which are my testimony. In Revelation 12:11, three things which I believe is our "signature" as overcomers: "How did they overcome the dragon? By the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even unto death." Until my relationship with Him is such... getting to the point that I cannot live without my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, He only is the solid Rock upon which I stand, a Rock which is immovable.
My Personal times of worship ~ are usually very early in the morning around sunrise, looking forward to being in His word, and seeing what He would speak to me, how He would manifest His Presence that day. With my notebook, pen, and highlighters ready, I read and then write down the inspired scripture that is sticking out at me, jumping off the page! To this day I have boxes and boxes of spiral notebooks from years of journaling, which are like reading the bible when flipping through them. I call it my training in "The School of Christ". I will also have my guitar near me, ready to go. Sometimes, I feel led to grab my guitar and start singing a scripture to a chord progression I'm playing. As a composer like my grandfather whom I never knew, I begin plucking out all the parts on my guitar or keyboard as I hear them in my head, making wonderful melodies in my heart! During the process of writing, I will wake up early in bed hearing and working out these beautiful arrangements in my head, hearing the full orchestra! Even when I take roadtrips, I can work out a whole song in my head. And as soon as I can get to the guitar, I will pluck them out so I don't forget what I heard! From the head to the paper is tricky! There will be times in the middle of the night when I will be awakened by songs of healing or comfort, having beautiful melodies and harmonies or chord progressions, but I won't get the words til an "appointed time". Or, I will have only words that are awaiting for the right blends and vibrations of tones that compliment and belong to the words. As a voice teacher in the community over 25 years, I have taught my students that certain vibrations sung at a certain frequency can shatter glass! There are also certain vibrations of frequencies of certain chords and chord progressions or tones, which are a vibrational "soothing balm" that can enter into places of the soul where no physical ointment or drug ever could. Music that comes from the throne is the healing balm from God Almighty, Jehova Rapha, The Mighty Healer!

The Worship Warrior and Priest~ is called into God's Army, and his "song" is his weapon against the enemy. His "life song" is his training, God's love letter, which God holds close within the folds of His own heart. We are His worship warriors and priests called out into battle, fighting for people's souls, trying to snatch them out of the fires, preventing slaughtered casualties and statistics. At times the battle can get bloody, maybe coming out of it with a limp, some scars.....the marks of a true warrior. His responsibility as a worship warrior is "building faith" in God's people and leading them victoriously into His Presence, into the inner courts of safety, into the Holy of Holies, casting down their fears, their worries and cares outside the camp, worshipping the only One true and living God who can deliver them. ~by Terri Shamar~

A Song of Encouragement Subscribe To My Blog (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

We all need a song of encouragement to bring us through hard stuff. This is one of my most favorite songs that ministers back to me when I'm down or discouraged. You can listen to this song on my music page.

CHILD AFTER MY OWN HEART words & music by Terri Shamar © 2009 ASCAP/AngelCry Publishing

God speaks to you, He's not against you
You want a second chance
Cut out the noise, Hear His voice
The God of your romance

As the sun ascends above the hill, Smiling over you
Hear Him call, He won't let you fall
He is there to see you through....

Beautiful Child, Apple of My eye
I know the plans I have for you
Plans for good, not for fear
Call My name, I will hear....
The child after My own heart

You're not forgotten, You're not abandoned
He knows your heart is true
To understand Him
You cannot fathom all the love He has for you

One day God will dry all your tears
No more pain, no more fear
Hold on tight with all of your might
And believe He holds you dear..... (chorus*)

The trials come, the trials go
Look to the Son and faith will grow!
Hold on tight with all of your might!
Believe He holds you dear

Beautiful Child, Apple of My eye
I know the plans I have for you....
Plans for good, not for fear
Call My name I will hear.....

Plans for good, not for fear
Call My name, I will hear
The Child after My own heart

Trip to Nashville - Feb 2009 Subscribe To My Blog (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

I had the privilege of working on my new EP "Child After My Own Heart" with my producer and very talented musician, Phil Baquie, member of the popular Christian group, Sonic Flood. I've never worked with a producer before, and it was very humbling for me because I had to LET GO. I had to let go of a particular line in one of my songs which happened to be my favorite line! But I know it was the best thing for the song! All in all, it was a great experience for me to work with a producer who's on the same page as you are! The EP is awesome. Please check it out, and allow the songs to minister to you.

This last trip to Nashville was a blessing, from beginning to end. Not only did I get to finish up my vocal tracks for the new EP "Child After My Own Heart", I got to go to the Opreyland Hotel to see the private screening of the movie 'C Me Dance' which my song (See Me Dance) amazingly is the title soundtrack for the movie! Sonic Flood just happened to be playing there also that weekend, and I had the pleasure of meeting all the band. Oh, and by the way, some of Sonic Flood played on my new EP. And John Newell did an outstanding job on keys! These guys are so humble, very refreshing. I also got to have dinner with the cast of the movie and meet these "on fire" actors and actresses! I also met some of the other Christian artists whose songs were in the movie. And to top it off, we also got in the Christian Broadcasting Network Convention at the Opreyland Hotel for freeeee! Unbelievable. The whole time, I just felt a sense of God's grace and favor, knowing that I was smack in the middle of His will. I have since been swamped with concerts, radio interviews, debuts, dinners, etc. My title song of the new EP "Child After My Own Heart" debuted on CSN International Radio, which was a big thing for me. That was totally a God-thing. Actually, it's ALL a God–thing. The Lord never ceases to amaze me! And it just keeps going!

All I can say is that the Lord keeps moving me forward, as long as I keep taking the steps, and not give up the Calling. He's brought me this far, I can't give up now. Despite of all the trials I have gone through, I'm keeping focused and being obedient to His call. Obedience is better than sacrifice. I have to be Peter ON the water, not Peter IN the water. And, 'hold on tight with all my might'. With all that has happened in such a short amount of time, with the movie and the new EP, etc, is an answer to prayer, a long time coming. Never give up on God, and you'll never have unanswered prayer.

Yours In Christ,
Terri Shamar

The Refiner by Terri Shamar

Awhile back, there was an article that was submitted on a respected friend's newsletter called, "The Silversmith". I was truly amazed at this article which spoke the very words of a song called, "Refiner" (Malachi 3:3) which I wrote and recorded. I was going through a heavy trial at the time. I have gone through many seasons of trials through my walk with the Lord. I have seen much, done much, experienced much heartache and pain, sorrow, grief, persecution, and even physical pain, and yes, dying. But if it weren't for the "fire" in my life, I wouldn't be the woman of God that I am now. God is continually shaping me, molding me, grooming me, and equipping me for the ministry that now lies ahead of me. My trials have not been in vain. Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith, and He will see us to the very end. Christ is building His character in us, His image. It makes sense knowing that all you've been through will somehow be used for the sake of His ministry one day, because God causes all things to work together for the good to those who are called according to His purpose. This has taken 25 years of truly walking with the Lord to "groom" me for what He's called me to do, and to accept the spiritual giftings placed upon me and my life, and not run from them. You can't get very far, because God will always find you and bring you back.

There are many of you who are being "groomed" for the ministry as I speak. And many of you may have ignored His voice. But let me encourage you. Know that your "grooming" is not in vain. God is using it to mold you, shape you to what He's calling you to be so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Allow the Refiner to burn away all the dross in your life. Submit to His calling. God is not finished with you yet. He will bring you to the other side.

Just remember that the Lord is the Refiner sitting by the fire, closely watching every detail of your life. Nothing goes unnoticed. He sees all. Remember that He is in control of the flame. And He will see you to the end.

Yours in Christ,

Please take a listen to REFINER and vote for it on the Fanfave chart. I hope the song blesses and encourages you!
