For A Time As This

It's really amazing how songs come together sometimes or the reasons why you write them.
Most of my songs have come with something that either the Lord was dealing with me about, something I've gone through, something that I've learned from and through the Word of God or simply because something in the Word just jumped out at me and it became a song with a lesson attached. Some songs I've written out of a time of pure worship and time alone with God.

'For A Time As This' was birthed out of a request made by Pastor Carol Brandl (Cup Of Joy Fellowship, Sauk Rapids, MN) who asked to write a song for our Network Meeting titled "Preparing To Meet Our King". The network meetings were a time of gathering for those in Christian leadership for encouragement, networking, strengthening in the Word and fellowship.
Of course for me such a request comes with "aaaaahhhh..... I usually don't write songs within a day!!" There's times that a song takes two years to finish (like "A New Day"). But, there's also times as with this song that God totally took over and it was finished within hours! When this happens it gets me really excited! Actually this song for a while became the "theme song" for the Network Meeting!

The day before the Network Meeting I was working on the music "set list" for the event and was going through the songs, playing them and just listening to the Holy Spirit what song He would highlight and speak to me about. I was playing on another song (can't remember which one it was) and the chords struck so to speak a chord with me....I changed them around and a melody came into my head that just got me excited.
So I opened the Word of God to the book of Esther and began reading starting in Chapter 2 where the king Ahasuerus was searching for a new queen and how it came about that Esther was gathered up with all the other young girls, came before the king, found favor, became the queen and then faced the most difficult choice of her life – yet stayed obedient and by God's grace she was instrumental in saving her people from the plots of evil men and the destruction they had planned.

So the words just came at the same time I had this melody in my head.
I wrote them down as they came, then worked them into the beat of the music and melody lines.....all that in a matter of a couple of hours.

Of course you can imagine how excited I was to be able to tell Pastor Carol that I had the song for her! Yet, now it was time to practice, practice and practice it again, so that I would not forget the melody and get it burned into my head. Vocals had to be worked out to be smooth without hesitation and of course I'd prefer to have all the "kinks" worked out of a song completely before actually playing it live. But in this case I felt comfortable enough with the people attending that they would not be overly critical, so I prayed rather that the Holy Spirit would touch them and that He would bring the anointing to their ears and hearts.

That day I had a few little minor "kinks", but of course after playing it a few times after that it had become solid quite quickly. That's when I always know that it's a "God thing".

Even though this song was written out of a request, I know that every song I write has a message with it.

Now as we read the book of Esther, we wonder "how did she do it?". We ask ourselves, "was she afraid?" and "why her?".

How many times have we asked God that last question in exasperation "why me, Lord?". Yes, why not me or you?

God always has a purpose for our lives and if we believe and trust Him and also get it into our hearts that He loves us, then the scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 will be an unshakeable truth to us: "For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope".
Now I know you and I have heard this scripture quoted many times, and often we have wondered – is that for us today?

So I want to go a little ahead of that scripture quote to Jeremiah 29:8-10. It says: 8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, 'Do not let your prophets who are in your midst and your diviners deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream. 9 For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them,' declares the LORD.10 "For thus says the LORD, 'When seventy years have been completed for Babylon, I will visit you and fulfill My good word to you, to bring you back to this place.
God is speaking to the exiles and He is saying that they are to be aware of those who tell them things that are contrary to the Word of God. That could be things of "God wants to bless you and you can ask Him anything you want and He will give it to you", to the fear inspiring "God doesn't care about you, you're never going to....You will never get out of..... You will always be....." What God wanted them to do is to be spiritually in tune with Him and not to believe whatever dream some so called prophet was telling them they were dreaming about. Remember, we have this today happening all over the place! If it doesn't line up with the Word of God then the prophet's dreams or words were prophesied falsely and were not sent by God.

See in verse 10. These guys were in exile for a while – but God said IN MY TIMING, when the 70 years have been completed..... when they have been completed for the specific purpose which I want to accomplish, when that's done, in MY TIME....THEN I will visit you and fulfill my good word to you.....
It was a promise from God that He was going to keep. But it would take time to happen and they had to patiently wait upon the Lord and continue to trust Him and live seeking His presence in the meanwhile.

When we are in Christ we DO have a hope and a future, even in the midst of our circumstance. The reason why we don't see nor recognize His goodness is the fact that we want OUT of the situation as fast as possible instead of living in His rest and peace, following His Spirit and not our own will or flesh.

Psalm 37:7 says: Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
Isaiah 57:1-2: The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart;
And devout men are taken away, while no one understands.
For the righteous man is taken away from evil, 2 He enters into peace;
They rest in their beds, Each one who walked in his upright way.
We have a promise from the Lord that He will take care of us. The key is for us not to fret.

Can you imagine what would have happened had Esther begun to fret to the other girls that were in the same harem with her about being taken away from her family and why me, and I wanna go home and man I don't like that Eunuch and certainly not being stuck in some harem....
What if Esther would have complained to the king? What if Esther had fretted about being put into the second harem, because she made friends with some of the other girls. What if Esther had fretted to the king about Haman too early? What if Esther would have been impatient or filled full of fear?

What I admire about Esther is that she patiently accepted all that was thrown at her. Could she have experienced fear? We don't know if she was fearful in the beginning when she was taken, I can imagine that she was. Yet I wonder, her uncle Mordecai who raised her had to be a solid man of God, to place within her that deep faith in God, all the things that were written about God, about Abraham and Noah, those men of faith and how they persevered. Some even persevered unto death, knowing that the promise of eternal life with Christ was awaiting them!
We can read about that in Hebrews Chapter 11.

But we sure do read about a concern Esther had when she found out about Haman's plot.
Now mind you....she was speaking through Hathach, who was a Eunuch appointed to Esther by the king. Now she had to know that this person was absolutely trustworthy. Because she relayed a message to her uncle Mordecai about what she found out and her uncle in turn replied back to her through her eunuch. This was a message that not only would affect her people but also very much her very own life. Let's think about this for a moment. Could this still happen today? That a message would be relayed trustworthily?

Are we the people that God could speak through without us getting in the way with our own interpretation or our own ideas about it?
Ephesians 4:20-25 says: 20 But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. 25 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.
Of course this scripture is not talking about relaying messages truthfully from one person to another, but it does tell us about an eternal truth that has to take root in us, so that we can be the people whom God will use to carry THE MESSAGE of Christ, salvation and deliverance unto others.

If Christ is Lord in us, then He is the center of our being and therefore if we submit to His Spirit, then we will be the people created in righteousness, and holiness of the truth – and therefore we will be – just as this eunuch, trustworthy. It's a daily laying aside the old life, the daily laying aside all the things we used to know and do.
The only way we can live the Spirit life, is if we have a daily relationship with God and a daily renewing of our mind in His Word, because it speaks truth to us and points out the things that are still strongholds in our lives. Then and only then can we come against the things that rise up in us, because then we will know what to say and do (as the scriptures pop into our minds) and how to handle the situations God's way instead of our own way.

Just like Esther who had to handle the situation that she found herself in God's way and not her own way. Also another thing, think about this: Esther could have said to herself "I can't deal with this, this is too big for me. How many times have we given up, thrown up our hands, walked away from something we felt God wanted us to do, just because we felt we couldn't face it, we couldn't do it.

Also Esther could have had another attitude. This is the stronghold of the attitude of "entitlement" that way too many seem to have these days. "Why do I care about the people out there....I'm good here in the palace...."

1 John 3:17-18 says: But whoever has the world's goods and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
So Esther had a choice to make.....she had THE life....but her people were out there and they had a need. They needed her and needed her to step up, step in and speak up for them. God had put her in that position for that reason. Remember God's plans are always for our good....

Remember what Cain said to God after he killed Abel?
Genesis 4:9 - 9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?"
Esther could have had the same attitude basically and just consoled herself to the fact that there was nothing she could do, if she wanted to save her own skin....she would have had to live with the same thing on her conscience as Cain (and we know what he went through after his act of murder)...
Let's read on in Genesis 4:10-14.. 10 He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground. 11 Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth." 13 Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is too great to bear! 14 Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."

Genesis 4:10-16 - Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
Can you imagine living your life outside the presence of God? That's how every unbeliever lives – they are the walking dead. Just like Cain.

Yet, we all in a way live outside the presence of God, His rest and peace when we follow our own will and way! Now I'm not saying that He is not present, He always is as He promised that He would never leave nor forsake us and that nothing can separate us from His love....
But WE are the ones unaware of the presence of God, because we can't even hear Him, nor receive from His Spirit and be led by His Spirit.
Are we using our gifts for the kingdom of God or are we sitting in the pews Sunday after Sunday, not making an impact within that congregation waiting for the pastor to give us approval – or worse yet, letting the pastor tell us what we are to do and not to do, what we are to know of the Word of God and just believe what we are being told?

Just like Esther, who had to make a decision. It wasn't an easy one, but it was one that had to be dealt with and so she began messaging Mordecai.
Esther 4:9-14 - 9 Hathach came back and related Mordecai's words to Esther. 10 Then Esther spoke to Hathach and ordered him to reply to Mordecai: 11 "All the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that for any man or woman who comes to the king to the inner court who is not summoned, he has but one law, that he be put to death, unless the king holds out to him the golden scepter so that he may live. And I have not been summoned to come to the king for these thirty days." 12 They related Esther's words to Mordecai.
13 Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, "Do not imagine that you in the king's palace can escape any more than all the Jews. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?"
So as you can see, she had a choice to make. Just like we do. Obey our own will and live in the soul, or – to trust God completely with our lives and do His will, because we should know that His plans for us (who believe and trust Him) are for good. She could also have been proud of her position and where she was living at this point in her life. In order to do what was asked of her - she had to have faith!
Habakkuk 2:4 - "Behold, as for the proud one, His soul is not right within him; But the righteous will live by his faith.

So in reading this and knowing her actions after when she did come before the king and doing it all in a diplomatic way, the truth was revealed, her people saved and she was just fine too.

So what does that mean for us today?
Romans 12:1-8 - Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. 4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; 8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
What is God asking of you to do? Do you have a dream to do something for His kingdom? Are you a singer? A musician? Are you a teacher? Are you a giver? Is your heart for missions to either go or support those who do?

Have you received a call from God? Read 1 Corinthians chapter 12.
1 Corinthians 12:27-31 says: 27 Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it. 28 And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. 29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? 30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? 31 But earnestly desire the greater gifts.
But whatever call you have been given from God – that you are to develop and use. For a time as this. Now more than ever as we are in the last days is the body of Christ needed to function in all it's specific functions together. Not one part of the body can do it alone apart from the other parts of the body.
Just like an engine that needs a cam shaft, pistons, heads, valves to drive the motor, this engine also needs the fuel injectors or a carburetor to distribute the gasoline to the valves so that the piston heads can go up and down driven by the cam shaft to create combustion to drive the vehicle forward as it is attached to the driveshaft, transmission and gears which distribute then that power to the wheels that are attached to wheel bearings....and all that other mechanical stuff that I have no clue about.
If any of those parts are missing, not functioning properly – nothing happens, the vehicle stalls and is useless. Think about that....

The same thing with music. You can't make the variety of sounds if you don't have instruments and if you don't have instruments that are played by skilled musicians. Otherwise it would just be noise.

I'm feeling that today the church is making a lot of noise allright. Mega churches, mega sound, mega lighting, mega programs and seeker friendly sermons.
In Matthew 23:27 Jesus Himself says: 27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.
In bible times, the tombs on the outside where scrubbed and white washed in order to look good. Yet on the inside they were full of dead man's bones.
Man often builds up shrines around the dead, like the pyramids or even our today's graveyards where some have fancy stones made for their grave markers. But the fact remains what's in it or under it is nothing but rotting flesh and bones.
Now can you imagine Jesus saying to you that you are nothing like a white washed tomb? That's exactly what is happening in way too many churches in America today. Nice beautiful places outside, lots of cool stuff going on inside, but underneath it, it's nothing but pompous electronics geared to heighten the senses of the soul, never reaching into the soul's crevices to set people free by proclaiming the truth and getting to the root of their strongholds.
Mark 12:38-40. "Beware of the scribes, who like to go about in long robes, and to have salutations in the market places and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at feasts, who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation."
Some of these people who are in today's pulpits take excessive sums of money and stuff from their people that they are supposed to shepherd and use that money for their own gain, lust and purposes. Some of them have expensive cars, jewelry, luxury houses.....while the people in their flock are hurting, in need, without true spiritual guidance and led astray thinking that "you are blessed by God having all this stuff" and therefore sink into depression, distress, distrust, disengagement because they are still hurting emotionally, physically and spiritually brought about a false belief that God loves you when you are blessed with having all that stuff.

How far is that from the truth!!! How many times have we heard "give and you'll get back 100 fold" and so many people end up disillusioned because they believed a lie that if they give money they get more money back. There is a scripture where Jesus says: Matthew 26:11 - 11 For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have Me.
It was never given from the heart but given out of bargaining with God and God does not bargain.
It's happened to me in my early years of being a believer.... I'm grateful to the Word of God which taught me the truth.

Esther could have bargained with God and have gotten herself out of the responsibility and situation by maybe sending someone else in her stead. But she did not. She took that call of God seriously because she knew deep in her heart that she was there in that palace for a time such as this!

God created us for Himself. That's the hardest truth to ever accept when you are a person that is self-reliant. You want it your way and you are going to get there no matter what it takes.

God desires a relationship with you! He wants to talk to you and He wants you to talk to Him. Not just spewing out requests "do this for me" or "I need this" or "make me well". But what about just a conversation... "thank you God that you love me!" "Thank you that you know what is good for me". "Thank you for saving me" and then listening to what He says to you through His Word and speaks into your heart.

When you finally let go and let God, then you can be used for God's purposes just like Esther was and it won't be a scary thing anymore.
For what do you have to lose? If God is for you, who can be against you?
You have eternity ahead of you. Keep that always in the forefront of your mind. This life passes quickly, but eternity is .....eternity.

Eternity is like this: If you give a dove a handkerchief and tell it to brush it over a mountain that's 10,000 feet tall and to keep flying over it and over it unendlessly....if that were possible, not even one second of eternity will have passed.....

Therefore, be open and aware of what God might want you to do today, in this day and time. You are born in this time for a time as this and you have been equipped and gifted by God for a time as this to be effective in the kingdom of God.
2 Timothy 3:14-17 - 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

If you don't know your gift, discover it, educate yourself in the Word, listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, apply what you hear and walk in it – and above all – have faith!

Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Mark 10:27 - Looking at them, Jesus *said, "With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."

FOR A TIME AS THIS ©2013 Samantha Scales-Arnold

There's a story I once heard about a girl from long ago
Taken from her people and the life that she had known
Beautiful but poor, she found favor with the King
With no request she entered in and she became the queen.

For a time as this you were born to rise -
A tender heart shining like a star
For a time as this you were born to rise -
To face your fears and enter in that's why you are a queen

Two men of power had a plot to lay hands upon her man
Her uncle heard and she in turn informed the king in his name
They died and another rose with more evil plans at hand
To wipe away her family and her people in the land.

There was great mourning everywhere about this man's decree
She chose to face her fear to fast and pray upon her knees
Her uncle's words still ringing "if you don't go – who will?"
Who knows if you have not attained your royalty for this.

When Wallflowers Dance

This song is a look at what we tend to strive for and how the world perceives success – making some feel less valuable and forgotten.
It's an observation also at the same time from the viewpoint of a deemed unpopular person that is longing for her success and trying to find her way.

WikiPedia says: In social situations, a wallflower is a shy or unpopular individual who doesn't socialize or participate in activities at social events. He or she may have other talents but usually does not express them in the presence of other individuals. The term comes from the image of a person isolating themselves from areas of social activities at ballroom dances and parties, where the people who did not wish to dance (or had no partner) remained close to the walls of the dance hall.

This description takes me back to my childhood days. My mom had this grand idea that I should learn to dance. As in ballroom dance. Me on the other hand, being free-spirited, wasn't all to thrilled about that type of dance. Back then I grew up in the 70's and if I were to dance at all, then I'd rather do whatever I wanted, contorting my body to the rock dance of the time. Besides that, I was not a dancer but quite stiff and my best friend always tried to teach me to do the disco or rock dance and she could do it so well and me, well it was awkward.

So of course in the dance lessons you had to have a partner. Since I didn't have a boyfriend, nor had the interest in having one, this would prove to be a difficult task for me to now having to dance with some guy I didn't know.
Of course, wouldn't you know it – I got stuck with a geeky looking guy that reeked of garlic. I will never forget that.
As the class progressed we had a couple events where we could show off to our parents what we had learned. So of course the girls all were kind of lined up by the wall and then the guys came over to get "their" girl. Wouldn't you know it – I would be the last one standing there and who would pick me – you guessed it, the guy who was the total geek reeking of garlic!!
That was the first and last event I ever went to. When it was time for a class or time for an event, I usually left the house on the bus to go there, but then I'd hang out somewhere else and listen to music or take a walk rather than go inside and face something I really didn't want to do.

A wallflower as a plant, is called Erysimum. There are 180 species of wallflowers. Their growth is best in dry soils with very good drainage, and they are often grown successfully in loose wall mortar, hence the vernacular name. There is a wide range of flower color in the warm spectrum, including white, yellow, orange, red, pink, maroon, purple and brown. The flowers, appearing in spring, usually have a strong fragrance.

What excited me about that description is the fact that wallflowers are actually quite beautiful, can bloom in very sparse soil, and are very fragrant.
If you take a look at my CD Insert as well as the CD itself, it you will notice the gorgeous drawing made by my daughter Cheryl Breaker of Ravin' Art who did a prisma pencil coloring of a wallflower photo for the artwork for this project.

With the colorful beauty of a wallflower and 'When Wallflowers Dance' being the title song of the whole project, I'm remembering just how I used to be before I came to know Christ.
The "urban dictionary" puts it this way: wallflower - a type of loner. Seemingly shy folks who no one really knows. Often some of the most interesting people if one actually talks to them.

After knowing Christ and studying His Word and being filled with His Spirit I had a lot to say, I found my purpose and this wallflower became quite the opposite. Even there are still occasional times where I feel like I'm standing in the line still waiting for my dream to come true – I'm no longer wishing for my song. I have my song and His Name is Jesus and He is the one that in turn gave me the music and the voice and the songs....

So, what does all that have to do with wallflowers and success?

Over the years I've seen so many people go to college, get their degree, owe tons of money only to find themselves working at some job that has nothing to do with the degree that they spent all that money for. Lost dreams, or wrong visions...
Some have taken degrees just because they thought they could make a lot of money with that type of job, but deep down inside, they really rather be doing something else. Most of course are pursuing degrees of professions that they are made for to do, help people or what they feel would keep them interested and be an exciting career for them.

But there are way too many who have gone to one interview after another only to get that preverbal letter in the mail. They felt left behind, forgotten, not good enough, never amounting to anything....just waiting for their moment. Many times they gave up on waiting and "with tears of disappointment stepped out of the line – a wallflower wishing for her song" settling in life for the first thing that came along their way and ended up stuck doing something out of necessity and then they've either given up to pursue their dreams or they have gotten too comfortable in their misery.

Many have given up hope because of feeling crushed and struck down.
2 Corinthians 4:7-11: 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; 8 we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh

What God desires most of all in us is to allow the life of Jesus to bring us back towards hope, restoration, persistence and success.
I believe if we truly are called to do something and we place that into the hands of God and continue to press day something will change. If we have trusted God for our salvation, we cannot forget that God placed a treasure inside of us – His Holy Spirit – which makes us a person of value, bought at a high price. Of course we will face trials, rejections and delays in reaching our goals...but let's not forget that the life of Jesus will also be manifested in our body!

If we do not give up – one day we will get our dance!.
Jeremiah 31:13 says: "Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, And the young men and the old, together, For I will turn their mourning into joy And will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow.
God is always into comforting us when we feel sorrow. Because as we trust Him, truly trust Him with our lives, letting Him have His way and not us insisting on ours, He will turn our mourning into joy.

Isaiah 40:31 says: Yet those who wait for the LORD Wll gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. In some cases they just may dance!

This maybe kind of weird, but I've taken another look at the Proverbs 31 woman. Yup, that lady that seems to have it all together and she's just perfect and no woman alive today could ever reach her potential – so we might as well just watch her dance and we just stand over there by the wall being the shy little wallflower.....
But as I'm looking at this lady from a fresh perspective, I'm seeing that she had her struggles, because why would she have had to gird herself with strength?
So she had to muster up something, even when she didn't feel like it necessarily.
I just think, if we look at her characteristics, we will find the key that will take us to the real success that we are actually needing – the rest – will follow.

Proverbs 31:10-31:
10 An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil - All the days of her life.
13 She looks for wool and flax And works with her hands in delight.
14 She is like merchant ships; She brings her food from afar.
15 She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household
And portions to her maidens.
16 She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength And makes her arms strong.
18 She senses that her gain is good; Her lamp does not go out at night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hands grasp the spindle.
20 She extends her hand to the poor, And she stretches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household, For all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies belts to the tradesmen.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she smiles at the future.
26 She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:
29 "Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all."
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 Give her the product of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.

I know this is talking about a wife – but I want to look at it from the perspective of a woman in general.
If you are a wife, a mom, work at home, a corporate business leader, a worker, independent business owner or employed, all the above applies.
The above does not describe the "perfect" woman that we all say we can't even be or become what she is. The thing is, if we get out of the stuff that bundles us all up in our soul and enter into a realm of the Spirit and begin to walk in the Spirit of God, we too have all the characteristics of this woman of strength. It all boils down to her having integrity and strength using wisdom in all she does. That's it.

Let's take a look at the characteristics she has.
She's trustworthy (vs 11)
She does everything good, even when she doesn't feel like it (vs 12)
She looks for that which is profitable and for provision (vs 13-14)
She works hard (vs 15, 27)
She makes wise choices, not rash decisions and knows how to spend money wisely (vs 16)
She doesn't give up, even when it's tough, she musters up strength to press on and continues to move forward (vs 17-19)
She's a giver and caring (vs 20)
She knows how to manage finances and therefore has provisions for clothing and everything necessary to get her household through hard times. (vs 21)
She also makes things instead of buying them. She also sells what she makes. (vs 22, 24)
She's a woman of dignity, self control and a support to her husband (vs 23, 25)
She's a woman filled with wisdom and kindness. She doesn't gossip. When she speaks she has a lot to say to bring hope to someone and uses wisdom in the words she uses. She's not rash in anger or expresses emotional outbursts. (vs 26) I Timothy 3:11- Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.
She is respected by her children and praised by her husband – why? Because she FEARS THE LORD! (vs 28-30)
She is not boastful – but her character speaks for herself (vs 31)

Now – that's not that hard to do is it? What is the key? FEAR THE LORD!!
That means not being afraid of God, but fearing the Lord means to honor, love and submit to Him in all that He wants you to do and moving into all that He has for you. That's what I'm talking about when I'm saying 'walking in the Spirit realm'.
This godly character makes her the lady who reaches out her hand to her Savior and steps out onto that dance floor with confidence and she moves to the Spirit's music like a veil that is flowing gracefully in the breeze!

Now – I don't want you guys to feel left out! I'm not just talking to women.... so much for hoping you'd be off the hook 
Contrary to what you might be thinking this type of characteristic also applies to men. For if you are filled with the Spirit of God, you also possess the character of God and you being made in His image to be the provider of your household, all this applies to you as well. As a believer, those characteristics placed inside of you are as a fragrance of the Spirit of God unto others.
Ephesians 5:1-2: Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

Ephesians 5:15-21: 15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

That is what encouragement is all about. When men have true fellowship in the Lord is when they are sharing with each other the Word of God. Thus they are strengthening one another to keep strong in the faith. So often our fellowships have turned into 'club like' atmospheres about everything else but the Lord. As all those things are fun to share about common interests and activities, it is yet even more vital that we encourage one another in the Lord.

I know many men who have felt like wallflowers also. Maybe you have felt overlooked for a promotion or an advance at your job. Maybe you have been waiting way too long..... Maybe the role was reversed as a kid when you had to take the dance lessons and you were the guy left standing because all the cute girls got all the other guys....or you were the guy smelling like garlic and the one girl you liked quit showing up at the dance lessons and left you disappointed......and now look at you! Once you were filled with the Spirit of God just may have grown up to be quite the man of God!!

Maybe this is the time for a change. In the same way as you would position yourself and do everything that you need to do to get that promotion in life, at your work or moving to the next level in your business, you also need to do everything that's necessary to stay in the flow of the Spirit of God and the things of His Kingdom. It's gonna take some thought and it's going to take spending time with the Lord and seeking Him deliberately. It's going to require a certain strength of desire and reaching for that purpose He has for you – and all this effort you will not regret.
Jeremiah 29:13 – And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Whatever God is going to refine in you will be worth all the effort and all the pushing through. The end result will be a vessel who is kingdom minded.
This is what true success is all about. It's not only about the credentials, the awards, the AD, BS, Master, Phd, Doctorate's all about a life surrendered into God's hands, taking on His character and living a life filled with His Spirit to have wisdom in life, be a person of character – then all those awards and degrees will be the product of your hands and your works in the Lord will praise you in the gates.

That is when a Wallflower finally will dance! Because his/her dance partner is the Lord Himself and now "the waiting is over....with courage and strength she looks to the future – a flowing veil in the breeze".... When Wallflowers Dance!

WHEN WALLFLOWERS DANCE ©2008 Samantha (Sam) Scales-Arnold

There are moments in life - When you have it all together
Many moments preparing - Your credentials and awards
Waiting in line for your moment
Watching while others get to dance
But the waiting's too long - So with tears of disappointment
You step out of the line - a wallflower wishing for her song

When wallflowers dance - The waiting is over
Free to release - Their fragrance of joy
With courage and strength - She looks to the future
A flowing veil in the breeze - When wallflowers dance

There were moments in time - When you had all the answers
Many moments spent waiting – for your dream to come true
Yes one day you will have your moment
No more watching others dance
When the waiting's too long – don't give up what you're made for
Your time will finally come – A wallflower hearing her song

This song was penned back in 2011 during a visit at a good friend's house in Nashville, TN. Actually both my friend Sue and I went to help with a project for John Schlitt and were staying with him and his wife Dorla. We even helped with some yard work which was a lot of fun. was!

I truly enjoyed the atmosphere in and around the house, the people, the big windows, all the light and that big porch with the swing and a few chairs. When we were not working on things, I used that leisure time to just sit outside and soak in the peace and quiet, sometimes borrowing John's guitar to work on some of my songs, while Sue was computing.

There were also times during our visit where I found myself here and there in John's office because I was really needing to get ready for a worship service upon returning from Tennessee. It was a place where you could shut the door if need be and no one bothered you.
One evening towards the end of our visit I really needed to hammer out one song so, grabbing John's guitar I sat in his office chair with the worship song sheets in front of me trying to work on the music. So, it started pretty good......but then it just wasn't happening for me that day. In a strange way I got bored with it because there was something else stirring inside of me that said: "WRITE".

So when you feel that as a songwriter, you better follow that urge and what better place to write than in a Grammy winner's home, right?

Being in the surroundings where I was and the peace I was feeling there and wishing I could stay in that place and not really looking forward to returning back home, I started penning the words to "Awake", basically describing the pain that one goes through when we find ourselves wondering if our dreams ever will come to pass or when we feel stuck in life.

The song was halfway finished when it was time to pack up and head to the airport. John and Dorla dropped us off and we headed to the check in with heads hanging low.
Then we waited.....and waited.....and waited for our flight. It was delayed and delayed some more. Come to find out that it was sleeting in Milwaukee where our plane was and the runway was iced over. So they finally cancelled the flight because the plane could not leave. Out of all the passengers we were the only ones that were grinning from ear to ear as we jumped up and hollering "yaaahoooo"! So we went back to the check in to find out when the next flights would be leaving and low and behold, no two seats open until 3 days later! YESSSSSS!!!!!
So we called John and Dorla and they picked us back up, laughing at us happy campers.

Now I had the opportunity to keep working on that song as well, besides getting to have a bit longer vacation in the warm temperatures and sunshine of Nashville.
So once I had all the lyrics together, I then was able to start working on the chords and melody over the next couple days. Once I had the song sketched out, I sang it to Sue and she really liked what she heard. I still had some refining to do which I worked on the next day in my room, which was the day we were to finally leave.

During my times of practicing I was always trying to make sure not to bug John with me hammering out melodies and tried to either work in his office if he was upstairs or in our room, if he was working in his shop next to his office. With John being so much in the public eye and every singer/songwriter giving him songs that they want him to listen to, record and help them get their foot in the door to the music industry, the last thing I wanted to do is be a pest with my writings. So here came the last day of our visit and I was still refining on the melody on 'Awake' sitting in our room supposing John was at the other end of the house. Honestly, when I work on songs and try to work out melodies, I do NOT want ANYONE to hear me!! That's for sure! But....I heard a knock on the door and John pops his head in and said: "I've been listening and I want to hear it!". I was like....SERIOUSLY???....uh... snooping eh? I told him I'd have it ready later – not now, I was in no shape form or fashion even ready to play it for HIM! Yikes!

So later came and HE reminded me that he wanted to hear that song, so I got the guitar and very nervously I must admit, sang it for my mentor. After I was done he told me that he liked the concept of the song and melody, that I needed to nail the pitch on one word but said that there are some other changes I needed to make and so he gave me some ideas of making the melody line a bit more colorful in places and left me going home with the challenge to make it into the song it is today.

I'm so appreciative of John's ideas, working them out once I got home. Then it was time to work it out vocally and guitar playing wise and then finally record it and be one of the songs on the "When Wallflowers Dance" CD.

In essence "Awake" talks about how we see life when we fall into self pity and what can get us out of it. I'm not quite sure why it happened there in Nashville, but I have an idea. Being there might have brought up some inner feelings about lost dreams since after all Nashville is Music City and I had also been going through that "stuck" feeling in my life.
As a friend of John's and having followed his career and being inspired by his music, the songs and ministry of Petra initially it's easy to get mesmerized by the success of the band and John as a singer...... but eventually for me it was more about the impact the songs have made not only upon my own life, but also countless of others.

Back in 1999 when I first felt that desire to actually go out and sing solo and not quite sure where this whole thing was going to lead, there have been many dreams in my head. Yet my root desire was always to present the Word of God, because the truths found therein have set me free, delivered me, have healed me and those treasures I've found I wanted to share with others. But I wasn't a speaker so the only way I knew how was to do it in the form of music and I wanted that music and message to make the same impact upon people as John's/Petra's music did to me.

So what prompted me to write these particular lyrics while down in Nashville?
Just like so many stepping out into ministry, I just went for it and wanted to "save the world"......but we all know that too often life throws some curve balls and can get you off track real quick when things either get too difficult or stuff happens in life that is unexpected. For some it's even difficult you are asked to even sacrifice something.

For me pretty soon that dream of being on the big stage one day, took on a back seat to life's challenges and other things that needed my attention.
That dream eventually gave way to something far bigger and better than the lights and great sound systems. In John's case that is what was given him, in my case the music and ministry I was to do took on a different form.

Lyrics: Life has a way to take a different path than where your dreams want to go.....

Often we get discouraged by what is placed in front of us – because it doesn't fit our idea. So for some that can either be devastating and they lose their hope, but if you allow it, in the hand of God it becomes a good thing – even when you think it is not. God's plans are always good and for your advantage, they are just not always fitting into our pretty little frames we try to put our lives into.

It has happened to all of us. We painted that pretty picture of how our life was gonna go, it even had the nice matching frame with it.....and then something happened and we didn't know how to deal with it, got angry, threw in the towel, felt hurt, forgotten, alone, mistreated, left behind and the list goes on. The thing is that WE were the ones who wanted to control what was going to take place in our lives and when we could no longer control it, then we fell into hopelessness, despair, depression or self-pity.

The key is that life will always take a different path. If we view it from the world's perspective it can leave us frustrated and wondering what our purpose is. But in the perspective of kingdom living, it takes on a whole different aspect.
See, life always takes a different path then where OUR dreams want to go. That's those self dreams. We all carry that "selfie" inside of us and I'm not talking about the pictures we take of ourselves and post them on FaceBook.

Also life takes a different path when we lay our lives down in the hands of God. Thank the Lord for His mercy to reach down to us and save us!! Right?!

Can you imagine where your life might have gone had you NOT surrendered to the Lord? Some of us might be dead right now! Some of us might be going down a very destructive path, an unhealthy path or a hopeless path.
We HAVE to look at things from such a different perspective, certainly not from a selfish one. God always has good purpose for our lives, it's us who so often run away from that because we want it our way and God is not going to force us to do anything. We have been given a free will!

Deuteronomy 30:19-20
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them."
God says that He places before us choices. We can either choose life or we can choose death. We can choose joy in Him or we can choose misery. Where would you like to dwell? It's up to us!

Let me give you an example of choices. This is something that just happened this past weekend. I was staying with my friend Sherri (some of you have met her before when she watched over my table in the back).... Her ministry is to a couple ladies who live in her apartment building and I have a new respect for Sherri and what she does and the patience that she displays with them. I know I couldn't do it and Sherri experienced that I can get "snarly"  We laugh about that, but this ministry was given to HER, because God knew the gift that she placed inside of her.

On Friday evening I had the chance to meet one of her neighbors, and then Saturday afternoon I got to meet her other neighbor....who is in a world of emotional chaos right now. After helping her move some furniture in, we had a chance to visit a bit and by the bits and pieces I've gained from the conversation this 50 year old woman was so caught up in a relationship with a guy who absolutely in my eyes would not cut it for me to even give him a minute of my time as far as relationship is concerned. But she is so "in love" with this man, who is a player and has another girlfriend. What baffles me is how this women could get so caught up in a relationship that are so destructive and demeaning to her. This guy didn't honor her nor really care for her!!
Ladies! You have worth! You do not need to find worth in a guy! JESUS died for YOU! HE is the one who will treat you with honor and respect and if patiently waiting upon Him He will bring the right guy into your life who will honor Him first and then you second as His help mate, not his next fling.
Guys...treat ladies with the kind of love how Jesus loves the church! What did He do? He gave Himself up for her!!
Ephesians 5:25-27: 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
Yes, this scripture specifically talks to husbands, but in all reality, that's how a man should respect a woman, if she's his wife, his girlfriend, his fiancιe, his mother, his aunt, his grandmother or great grandmother.....

You have to remember that you can't change people. That was something this lady said to me.....that she's hoping to change him. First of all, if he's not a believer, he's going to act like sinners do. I also told her, that we can't even change ourselves, much less us changing someone else! Only Jesus can change lives! Otherwise then WE try to be god in someone else's life and that's idolatry.

See it all goes back to the garden of Eden....we all know that the serpent deceived Eve.
Genesis 3:6 - When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
Eve was deceived because she looked at that fruit with desire, plus the fact that she thought could end up being smarter than her husband....and Adam made her his god because he cared more about Eve and what she was handing to him than what GOD had told him not to do!! He idolized her! We know that afterwards their eyes were opened....and it wasn't going to be pretty from then on!
We have to be so careful not to let others influence us to change what we know God has told us to do or deviate from the narrow path that He wants us on.

Sherri and I finally convinced her to come with us to Saturday night's concert! After the concert and the events that happened it really saddened me how self-pity has such a stronghold on people.

This is what I penned on my Music Page:
It is a very sad thing to see a person is when invited to come to a Christian concert and finally decides to come along because they heard some truths being presented to them and then only stays for a short while and decides instead to go to the bar across the street...

The pain that entangles us is the pain that we do not want to face and press past because we rather believe the lie that has now become our truth because it is a strange comfort zone we find ourselves in. therefore instead of being set free by what Christ has to offer we go back to what we know and then wonder why we continue to stay in pain...

A lie that becomes our truth because we believe it to be our truth will keep us in bondage, keep us in misery, it hurts other people that care about us, we keep hurting ourselves and it is a stronghold in our lives that Christ wants to set us free from. But we have to choose to want to be set free and we have to choose life. It is not easy to press through but once we are determined to follow Christ and His truth then we will be truly set free!

God said: I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse.....choose wisely.
If we don't we find ourselves here:

Lyrics: You find yourself slumbering in despondency and the soul has lost it's song of hope.....
Jeremiah 29:11-14, we have heard it shared many times: 11 For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,' declares the LORD, 'and I will restore your fortunes and will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,' declares the LORD, 'and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile.'
Many times when that picture we have painted in our minds doesn't come to pass, we often find ourselves either giving up or falling into despondency....and our soul looses it's hope. Our focus becomes the circumstance (or people) instead of what God might want to show us or teach us and so we start living through the soul (mind, will and emotions) rather than the Spirit. Even though God talked to Jeremiah in this scripture, it still rings true for all of us today, because God wants us to call upon Him and come and pray to Him and He will listen. Key is, that we come with the right heart attitude and truly desire to seek HIM, not the thing we are asking for, but seeking Him and His presence. He says "search for me with all your heart".... He's not saying search for me with all your heart to get what you want. He is saying search, look for with intensity, with desire, with longing, not giving up in the pursuit...for Him and He will be found and not just somewhere in the distance when we finally get there after all the long searching, but right here. "By you" He says. Which means, that the whole time He was right there all along, we just couldn't see Him because we were too preoccupied with feeling sorry for ourselves, looking at the circumstances and being tempted to listen to the senses and listen to our flesh rather than what God has said.

See, the enemy will always tell you that self pity will make you feel better – but that's a lie. It leads to hopelessness which will cause depression and despondency.
We fall into that temptation when we follow our feelings which is following the flesh rather than the spirit of God. So we now have believed a lie that became our truth.
Now God gave us feelings and emotions, but those are supposed to be warning signs. God is the God of hope and there's no hopelessness with God and there's nothing hopeless in God.

Psalm 40:1-4: 1I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear
And will trust in the LORD.
4 How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

The thing that we struggle with is that "waiting patiently" upon God and that's why we lose our "song of hope".

But we need to look at waiting in a different sense. What does a waiter do? He serves, right? So if we are actually continuing to serve in our waiting, then the waiting won't seem so long.
As we serve others we also won't be focusing so much upon our own circumstances and "self" but rather to that which benefits another.
Don't you think that the devil has tried to convince me to give up many times? I could have given in to that and just say "forget it", the sacrifice isn't worth it, the struggles aren't worth it.....but when you are called you can't help but press on and through.

The miry clay that gets us stuck is self-pity and we don't want to be stuck there, but rather have our feet set upon that rock where our footsteps are firm and our footsteps are firm when we make the Lord our trust. Proverbs 3:5-6 says: Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

God knows our need, He sees our tears and hears our cry. Psalm 56:8 -You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?
Psalm 31:24 says: 24 Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the LORD. The devil always tempts with things that make us feel good. Initially self-pity will make you feel better, but eventually it will lead into hopelessness and then into depression. When we feel self pity, then we draw other people into our self pity (like our spouses). We often involve others with the hope that they will feel sorry for us. Those are things that we were taught to do.

We got a real enemy, the devil – but Jesus has different plans! John 10:10 - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
The devil wants and tries to destroy our lives and if our life is destroyed, he's got the upper hand. If we don't get our thinking right, our life takes the direction into what we think of ourselves. First we think it, we speak it and we do it, that's why it's so important to watch over what we think, think about and dwell on. The devil can't destroy us anymore because Christ defeated the devil but if we are deceived, it's because of what we choose to believe. If we believe that our dreams can never come true.....they won't, because we will not serve, we will not seek after God, nor recognize that He's right there and we won't realize that He has plans for us of hope. It's in the serving that our dreams change into the direction that God wants us to go and then His dreams become our dreams and our dreams are His dreams.

If you have hopelessness you may have built a stronghold of self pity to prevent yourself from future disappointment. We build up walls to protect ourselves. The symptoms of those walls of self-pity are: Depression, Despair, heaviness feeling, loneliness. It's because you have believed the lie that your life is unnecessary. God created each and every one for a purpose, He created us for Himself. The stronghold of self pity needs to be replaced with hope. It doesn't do us any good to stay in self pity, it's not going to change anything if we feel sorry for ourselves, all it does is make the devil happy and causes us emotional pain, and it's causing us pain because it's sin against God. Self pity is a stronghold because it separates us from God because it causes us to believe that there is no hope in God. That's exactly what happened to my friend's neighbor.

If you are hoping in anyone or anything other than God, you will end up discouraged or in despair. Why? Because if you put your trust in a person or thing – it then is the first thing in your life instead of God and you should rather be hoping and trusting in God because nothing is impossible for Him.

Romans 15:13 - Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord is our hope and if we put our hope in anything else, we will always be disappointed, but our soul only can be restored if we are in the Word, renewing our minds constantly.

Lyrics: Dreams have a way to repave a shattered road of all the pits that life engraved

There are many scriptures about dreams in the Bible, some are not so good, some of those dreams are focused upon self, some were interpretation of dreams or about false prophesy, but there also is mention of dreams put inside of us by God.
When we allow God to direct our dreams, personally and spiritually and infuse them with His Spirit, He is the one that will repave that shattered road of all the pits that life engraved upon our hearts and minds.
Lets look at that word "pity". It's a pit. A pretty deep one that our minds and emotions wander into and are lost in it's vastness.
It's a stronghold that runs around in your mind like this: "Why did this happen, I don't deserve this, I give up, they don't understand, things will never change." All those thoughts come from the pit of hell (another pit on that road by the way). It's lies from the devil that he wants to keep us bound in and what a stronghold means is, that those lies became our truth. We have to come to the place to choose to believe what God says and line up with light and not with darkness. Feeling sorry for ourselves will never ever change anything.

We are a spiritual being, this body is just a body. For some people self pity is a form of manipulation to get attention from people, even if it is negative attention. The thing is it doesn't get God's attention, but it gets the devil's attention. God will allow us to stay in self pity as long as we choose to, He will not feel sorry for us. He is a God of compassion and mercy, but He hates self pity because that's idolatry and putting self above God.
When we are tempted to fall into self pity we need to remind ourselves that we are not to worship ourselves. We were created to worship God and our attention and focus should be towards God and what He wants for our lives. He has a specific purpose for each one of our lives.
Hebrews 12:1-3: Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.
When we are to present our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, that includes the mind and yes, it is a sacrifice not to be thinking negative thoughts. They come easy to us but that which would uplift us comes harder, because we feel that everything that has happened to us has shattered everything that we have ever hoped and dreamt for and left such deep pits of pain that we can never overcome..... so are we believing the lie rather than the truth? What picture have we painted? Was it God's inspiration or was it man's? Was it His way or our way? Are we bent on our will or give in to His will?
So....if we give up on ourselves, we give up on the dream that God initially placed in our lives.
Proverbs 19:21 - Many plans are in a man's heart, but the counsel of the LORD will stand.
God created us for Himself not us for ourselves. We have to take our eyes of ourselves and see the good plan He has for our lives. If we are surrendered to Him "God you are God of my life and you are in control of my life", then He will be. So when things don't turn out the way we think, we fall into self pity and that means that this area we have not surrendered to God. The most important thing about God's plan for our life doesn't include self. Every person that God brings into our life and puts them in our life are people we can touch or reach out to – if you think that you are unnecessary, the enemy wants you to believe what he plants into your thoughts. My friend has certainly a ministry where she lives. Those people were placed in her life for her to minister to, her life is not unnecessary, for who knows if God is not going to change this one lady's life because my friend will continue to present her with the truth. It's the truth that sets us free.
Thoughts like "I don't want to live anymore if...." (this guy doesn't love me, doesn't text me, doesn't come over to see me)....are lies we believed and have become our truths.
Believing a lie hurts not only ourselves but also everybody else. It makes us irresponsible, makes us think of self rather than others, it inconveniences others because we no longer think of others because it has all become about self. When we don't like our circumstances it's easy to fall into self pity. When we fall into that temptation, we have put ourselves on the throne and not God on the throne of our heart. When we are in self pity we are trying to control our own little world of self.

God's plan is to conform us into the image of His son and He will allow circumstances in our lives to do that.

Lyrics: When you awake from your slow fade, in the hands of God the heart will find it's joy again.

Self pity if allowed to continue takes us down a path of where everything slowly fades away inside of us. Our faith in Christ, our resolve, our trust, our fellowship with God, our desire to read the Word of God, our desire to fellowship with others, our desire to keep pressing on in ministry. This slow fade brings us to the point of feeling the emptiness, loneliness and worthlessness.
The slow fade is a path that the enemy takes us on and if we allow it, he keeps us on that path. Remember Christ came to set us free and destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:7-9: 7 Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; 8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

So – there's good news!!! We have a hope in Christ, we have that hope deposited in us as a believer, so therefore we shall awake from that slow fade we want to drift into, because our hearts in the hand of God will find it's joy again!
Ephesians 1:3-14: 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 10 with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.

It's all about Christ! To be free from self pity you must believe and know that God loves you. There's no situation that is hopeless in God. There is NOTHING hopeless in God. Don't ever allow the enemy to convince you that it's so hopeless.
Those years that we get on earth (20, 30, 90....) are short, but eternity is forever and ever and ever.
How do I explain eternity? It's like a big mountain, say 10,000 feet tall. You give a dove a handkerchief in it's beak and tell it to fly over that mountain and keep brushing it with that handkerchief until it wears all away. If that were possible and the dove would live long enough and would have the strength to do so endlessly - even then not one second of eternity will have passed.....

Don't let the enemy take you out through self pity! We all have gone through horrific things in our lives, but don't allow the enemy to pull you so under that you are on a slow fade....stand for Christ, stand for what you believe IN CHRIST!

Romans 15:13 - Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

If you think about it – if God loved us so much to die for us, there's no situation on earth that He won't help us with now.
We have to choose to believe that our life has great value to God.
God can use you in such a mighty may not even know it. You could say a word to somebody that may save someone's life. You don't have to be on a platform. Ephesians 2:10 - For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
God will and wants to use you. You can make an impact and you are an influence for the kingdom of God, so don't let the devil lie to you that your life doesn't matter.

You have to believe that God knows your future. And if God knows your future then there's nothing that we need to be fearful or upset about.
The promise in the Word of God is that He has good plans for us. There are some things we will never understand what these things are that happened in life, we must believe that God works things out.

Chorus Lyrics: Awake my child and sing again, watch the pain of the past drift away
Arise my child and walk again, you find your strength one step at a time
Arrive my child when you run again, with your eyes on the goal to be free
Awake my child and sing - Arise my child and walk again - Arrive my child when you run
Ephesians 5:6-15: 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them; 8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 14 For this reason it says,
"Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you."
15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
God is calling us out of our slumber, our of that slow fade. He is saying "Awake to my Spirit and to where I want to lead you!
Do not dwell on the past, the roads are not shattered and do not be overcome by the pits that the enemy tried to engrave on your heart.

Remember I am Your Healer, for I will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:6 - In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

He will put a new song into our hearts, His song....and as we acknowledge Him the pain of the past will drift away, we will walk again, find our strength as we take one step at a time following Him and letting Him lead.
Hebrews 12:12-13 - 12 Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.
Therefore we will arrive where He wants us to get to and we won't only just walk but we will be strengthened to run that race that is set before us and will then be free from the strongholds that try to bind us.

It takes all of us together to walk that strong walk of faith. Hebrews 10:24-25: 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
Isaiah 35:3-4: Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the feeble. 4 Say to those with anxious heart, "Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance;
The recompense of God will come, But He will save you."

So being in Nashville gave me lots to think about, a song to pen down and write, which comes with a message. That is the message that I'm to share. The music is just the avenue for the Word of God to be brought to those who are hurting, if that be those in the church or those who don't know Jesus yet.

Today I'm thankful that God placed me into "reality" of what ministry is about and that it looks different for each one of us. For John it was the big stages, for me it is where I'm serving now.... It can change, but it might also be what I'm called to.

The good thing is that now I don't want to be a "mini-John" anymore, but I've grown into who I am as a singer and songwriter as well as hopefully being sensitive and obedient to the Lord's leading in how He would have me to use the music He gives me.

That week in Nashville God was reminding me that He wants me to Awake to His Spirit, Arise and follow Him and Arrive where He leads me to! He desires the same walk for all of us!

So also to you dear child of God I say: Awake.

Awake ©2011 Sam Scales, Nashville, TN)

Life has a way to take a different path
Than where your dreams want to go
You find yourself slumbering in despondency
And the soul has lost it's song of hope

Awake my child and sing again, watch the pain of the past drift away
Arise my child and walk again, you find your strength one step at a time
Arrive my child when you run again, with your eyes on the goal to be free
Awake my child and sing
Arise my child and walk again
Arrive my child when you run
(Awake, Arise, Arrive)

Dreams have a way to repave a shattered road
Of all the pits that life engraved
When you awake from your slow fade, in the hands of God
The heart will find it's joy again

Lay it all down into the hand of the dream-giver
Lay it all down into the hand of the dream-giver
Lay it all down, lay it down
He's gonna see you through

A New Day

I remember driving down the road several years ago on a concert trip going south and this melody came into my head with the words: "When the sun comes up and the night falls down"....
The road is still edged into my mind to this day. Quite strange actually. I still see the road and remember that Warren had some country music playing and after he was asleep I had turned it off. I do like some country but not all the time and not when I'm driving!
So in the nice quiet, the tires humming down the road, there came this melody in my head and these words... As I was thinking on what else to add to sun coming up and night falling down, I got: "and it's golden rays shine in this place"
Since I was actually having my hands on the steering wheel keeping my truck between the lines on the road, I grabbed my handy iDevice and pushed "record" and sang it so that I'd remember that line and the melody.

Upon returning home I re-listened to that melody and those words and wrote them down and in thinking about what to do with the rest of the chorus a lot of images flashed in my mind.... Like a church building and the rays of the sunlight coming in and all the shadows disappearing. Well, basically part of that picture became part of the chorus.
But then.....I had absolutely NOTHING else. Nothing for the rest of the chorus and nothing for the verses....

A couple years later, in the summer of 2012 I had a very disturbing night, couldn't sleep, got really frustrated and so I decided to get up and go into my office. I did get those lyrics out from the 'road-trip-song' and tried to pen something down.
It kinda went like this:
"One long night I just couldn't sleep - staying awake all night.
Reflection in the mirror looking like a freak - is my world ever gonna be allright.
But when the sun comes up....."
Anyways, it was really stupid and I couldn't get nothing formulated so I gave up and went back to bed....

In about November 2012 a pastor friend told me that God said to her to tell me to finish "that song" and I had another one to write. You know that "somebody told me to tell you that somebody said"......really Lord???
At first I scratched my head as to what "that song" was He could have been talking about, but then a couple days later I remembered the 'road trip song' again and got the lyrics out. God has a way of reminding us....and I'm glad He did!
Soooo .... when GOD says something, better git 'er dun! Since I was in a much better frame of mind and not looking like a freak when I walked by the mirror, I thought that this could possibly happening.

Remembering my summer dilemma, Psalm 42 came to my mind:
In particular verse 5: 5 Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence.
Ah...THAT was it! This was all what I was feeling that one night when I got up and couldn't sleep and tried so hard to pen something down. What came out that night was total emotion and frustration over stuff and not being able to sleep.

Now – things were different. I grabbed my guitar and started figuring out the chords to that melody from a few years ago and got that noted down, then all of a sudden the words came for the rest of the chorus and for the verses, as well as the chord progressions for the whole song. Now all I needed to do was refine it and learn it – and then share it with others!

Let's go back to Psalm 42. We all know the beginning where King David says:
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
4 These things I remember and I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go along with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God, With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.

As King David faced loneliness and trouble in exile he must have been going through a "dry spell" or the "desert" in his soul. He was looking for those water brooks of the Spirit, thirsting for the presence of the Living God.
In his lament that followed his desire for God's nearness, he acknowledges the fact that his soul thirsted after God and he yearned for God's presence!
Of course when faced with trials, or walking that desert road, or those long waiting periods, he reacted, just like we do, deep out of his soul. Remember, our soul is the will, mind and emotion.
Just like we do, King David cries, he's upset, he mourns and he remembers the good times and the joy he "used" to have.

So as we take a close look at these beginning verses, we begin to realize that our soul DOES hunger and thirst for God, for only He is the One able to place us back to how we should live – in the Spirit. King David knew that only too well. There were times when he walked in the Spirit and was victorious and other times he totally was in the flesh (as we can see with Bathsheba). Even in just this Psalm we can see the struggle and war that goes on between the flesh (soul) and the Spirit.

In this Psalm King David is asking "when shall I come and appear before God?" Well, any time! God hasn't gone away, but often WE have wandered away either out of guilt feelings, or our own will (not wanting to hear what He has to say). Also we tend not come into His presence often, because we are too preoccupied with everything else that's going on around us.
Who is King David listening to? He stated: "While they say to me all day long "where is your God?". Who is "they" and why do they have such an influence?
It's in the attentive listening to what others are saying when it eventually gets to us.
How often have we become discouraged or gotten off track because we have listened to the wrong people? Some people, just like us may just tell us what we want to hear, because they too live in their soul and they are afraid to tell us the truth.

Just as King David is remembering the way things used to be, it makes me think of how many "used to's" are we all too often thinking about. How many times has our thinking got us walking down the trail of past tense and trying to drag that past along when God wants to do something afresh and new in us? Sometimes it takes those desert places for us to go through that transition into something new that God has for us. But we just tend to resist....and give up and never go through all the way. How often has our thinking got us either to misinterpret things or make assumptions?
That's why 1 Corinthians 14:20 says: Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.
How many times has thinking taken us into more sadness, feeling sorry for ourselves or feeling discouraged by what we tell ourselves (or listen to what others tell us)? Yes, "What do you think in the crevice of your mind?"
We really need to think about what we are thinking about!

I know I've walked that trail of past way too many times and we really will have to overcome the past so that we can move on with the future!
Matthew 7:13 says: "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it."
Think about it! The way of the kingdom is a narrow road and many have deceived themselves in thinking that being religious is "the ticket". But I want to also look at another thing that can get us way off course and walking down a road that leads to destruction of our hope, faith and trust in God.

Psalm 42:5-6. Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise him for the help of His presence. O my God, my soul is in despair within me; Therefore I remember Thee from the land of the Jordan and the peaks of Hermon from Mount Mizar.
Negative emotions will always take us off course and then we can't see things the way they really are. Negative emotions are destructive. The only way we can stay on that narrow path in our soul, our thought life, is by allowing peace to lead us and that can only come by us being led by the Spirit of God and not be governed by our mind, will and emotions. It's so much easier to just let it go and walk the easy road, the broad way and fall into self pity – but it's much harder to surrender the will. Therefore hope is in God and once we pushed through whatever God wants us to push through, we shall praise Him for the HELP of His presence. See He's present the whole time, we just don't realize it, because our focus is elsewhere. But once we get back on track, we will praise Him, because then we realize that He's been there the whole time wanting to help us through whatever we are going through. Then we'll be in the land of Jordan and on the mountain peaks of Hermon!

"What would you do with courage my child? What would you try with Jesus by your side?"
Let's look at another king. When king Asa was surrounded with all kinds of chaos in the land, the Lord came to him through the prophet Azariah speaking to him these words:
2 Chronicles 15:7 - But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work." After hearing these words, Asa was obedient and began all the work that God had commanded him to do.

We often give up way too early and allow ourselves to be swept into all the chaos that goes on in our lives. God wants that we not allow chaos or confusion to have any place in us.
Spirit life gives rest. You will be at peace, at rest deep within. Joy, deep inner calmness and contentment, a happy state deep within. That does not happen in your soul. When we allow God to iron out the wrinkles or making the rough places smoother, it's not always a pleasant process and we may not like it, but it will be always to our advantage when that process is completed.
Psalm 31:23-24
23 O love the LORD, all you His godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful
And fully recompenses the proud doer. 24 Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the LORD.

The key to hope is not hope itself, but hope in the Lord.
Psalm 118:22-24 says:
22 The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief corner stone.
23 This is the LORD'S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

How often has verse 24 been quoted saying that we should always rejoice and be glad in the day that the Lord has made! But WHY should we rejoice? Because it's a new day? No. We need to read it in context – who is the context and ties the day to the rejoicing? The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief corner stone. We know who that is! Christ Jesus! HE is the reason why we are to rejoice in each and every day! See, it all points back to Christ, not the nice day we are to have and the happy mood we are to be in no matter what happens that day.
Also in 1 Peter 2:6 it says: Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious and he that believeth on Him shall not be confounded. See, sometimes when the day brings unexpected stuff it gets us mentally disturbed, because we aren't expecting it and in some situations we don't know how to handle it. So we are not going to be "happy" in that day. It's really not about how we are supposed to feel about the day.
Actually all that is required of us to do is to BELIEVE on JESUS and we won't be confounded or confused. It may hit us, but we don't have to stay in that mode.
Even if we are in a funk one day, let's not hang there.......
In believing on Christ sometimes that just means for us to sit in His presence and not DO anything and sometimes the Holy Spirit will prompt us to jump into action.
Darkness will always want to overtake our joy in Christ but we have to remind ourselves what it says in John 8:12.

John 8:12 - Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
When the light shines into the darkness, darkness has no place for darkness flees from the light. When you walk into a pitch black room, even a small match will light up the room. In our modern times, the moment you turn on your smart phone, the darkness is gone! That is if you have it charged up!
How much greater is the light that Jesus shines into the darkness so that darkness will flee from us? But we have to be charged up in Christ!

Isaiah 50:10 - Who is among you that fears the LORD, That obeys the voice of His servant, That walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

You know, sometimes we can really walk around so bent over with our burdens that it seems we can't ever see the light of day through all the darkness of issues. But, why is that? Have we forgotten who we belong to?

1 Corinthians 3:18-23 - 18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; 20 and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS." 21 So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 23 and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God.

And let us end with going back to Psalm 42:7-8. Deep calls to deep at the sound of Thy waterfalls; All Thy breakers and Thy waves have rolled over me. The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; and His song will be with me in the night. A prayer to the God of my life.

If we are saved through Christ Jesus, then deep calls to deep as God's Spirit bears witness within us because His Holy Spirit is deposited in us.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22. Now He who established us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the spirit in our hearts as a pledge.
Once we finally allow ourselves to be led by the Spirit then His Spirit will roll over us and we will experience His lovingkindness in the daytime and we also will be at peace in the night as He is our heart's song. He is truly the God of our life!

So I say: "A New Day brings hope your way again!".... Our hope is in Christ!

A New Day ©2012 Samantha Scales-Arnold

Why is your face so downcast my child
And why do you cry in the middle of the night?
Why do let your burdens weigh you down
And why have you forgotten that you're my own?

When the sun comes up and the night lies down
And it's golden rays shine in this place
No more shadows here, no more midnight fear
A new day brings hope your way again

What do you think in the crevice of your mind
And what would you say if I'll make it allright?
What would you do with courage my child
And what would you try with Jesus by your side?

Chorus into
Bridge- End:
When you feel all alone.....remember
A new day brings hope again
A new day brings joy again
A new day

The Journey - musings about a recent conversation. Subscribe To My Blog (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

This is one thing that I have recently learned: That sometimes people around you just won't understand your journey....They are not supposed to, the journey is yours - not theirs.

About 5-6 years ago I played quite regularly for a group of wonderful ladies and just recently the organizer of the group and I were able to spend some time together just sharing what has happened in each other's lives over the last 4 years in which I had not been playing for the group. We certainly had a most blessed time, in which I was able to share some of my new music with just her alone and it was a huge blessing to her and she felt very special to have had this privilege.

In this conversation I had learned something interesting - Other people often seem to have in mind what I am supposed to or should be doing, and they are having a difficult time understanding what it is like to have a specific call on your life.

I had played for this group for probably at least a year, if not two..... Certain things happened in our personal life four years ago that I shared with the group. During this time I had been praying for God's direction for new opportunities and connections musically and ministry wise.
So they prayed for a certain thing...and praised God for it when their desired answer came, but (at the time they didn't know) that they would lose the very thing they had enjoyed for all this time prior – because after their answered prayer I became no longer available for their meetings due to the time when they held it. They have missed "their" music very much.

In our conversation I realized that this person was still all excited about their answered prayer....but at the same time she was telling me how deeply I had been missed.... So I wondered, why they had prayed a specific direction when possibly they could have asked the Lord for a different outcome. Yet, I also began to understand that's often where people are and often they think of a more obvious answer to a problem, rather than asking for God's will in the situation. But now understand why they couldn't understand where my walk was to be. It's not their journey to understand.

The real issue is - had they prayed for God's will, might something different have taken place??... Good intentions, even though well thought out in our own understanding may not always necessarily be God's PERFECT will.

Now don't get me wrong. I do NOT in any way, form or fashion blame their prayer or their good intentions for an undesired outcome, because I also had a choice to make to accept that outcome or not - and to stay in it for as long as I had when God told me two years ago through a circumstance that I was to go forward in ministry.....but all I could see was the box at that time also.
Also it could very well have been a true answer from the Lord – but it was supposed to be only a temporary solution. I do know that now for certain. Therefore we need to be ever so prayerful ourselves and always be in close communication with the Lord because we can miss it also and sometimes stay longer (or shorter) than we are supposed to.

Can God use anything for good? So yes, absolutely! Am I thankful for what took the time, yes, it was a quick seemingly "answer to prayer" in our often narrow understanding. We get into a situation and we want a "quick fix". God is not always into quick fixes, although He sometimes does answer quickly, but there are other times that He tests us to see if we stay faithful to the call and to Him, even if things don't look perfect according to the world's way.

So of course the last four years have felt like a desert to me - and specially the last two - because now I was being disobedient to God and therefore quite miserable!

The conversation had left me with lots to pray about. In trying to explain that I KNEW where my true call was and what I'm actually supposed to be doing, was received with an answer based upon understanding of what they thought was right.
At the time I felt that my new situation would be temporarily maybe, but pretty soon it had grown into a permanent situation, a weird comfort zone of sorts that has become now an obstacle of being afraid to let go of, because it implies a form of "security". Ah, be careful what you pray for yourself as well!
Often we think we want something – and we begin to realize soon that our will isn't all what we thought it would be and wish we had trusted GOD instead of seeking to fix things ourselves.

Therefore, nobody can understand your journey if it's not for them to understand, because it's not their journey - it is yours! You have to stand firm upon what you know God has shown you to do. Do not allow others to discourage you by their ideas of how you are to live your walk with God.
Stay in close communication with God at all times! It's vital to your growth and vital to your relationship with Him – and with others!

How do you know if you have a call and if you are on the right path?
Well, you may get side tracked as I have, but the journey even in this has never stopped, the call is irrevocable. You may try to lay it down, you want to quit, you want to turn the other way (sometimes you do, but I assure you, it won't be long) - but for some reason you just can't. God won't let you! He brings opportunities to keep you motivated!

Many many times I have said "I'm done". I can't do both.....I'm weary, tired, the battle is too hard, I have no time, there's not enough time, when, where, how, I can't focus, I can't think, the songs are not coming like they used that must mean I'm through. Maybe they were right after all, maybe I'm wrong.
But then - GOD opens a door, brings people into your life to keep you going, brings new opportunities, brings a song to your mind, that touches others in such a great way or brings them into His presence - and then you know - you're not done. You feel that energy. You can't put it down, you can't quit, because it's part of you, His Spirit is alive in you and it has to come out one way or another.

So at the moment, that may not be as frequent as I like it to be. There maybe times I will have to regretfully say no because I have to be available to the other thing for the time being - but that does not mean it will be this way forever.
In the meanwhile, I will have to be proactive to keep going forward and not to get de-railed and quit – but rather even more so stay on track, always moving forward in the call that has been placed on my life.

In exercise terms........we have to be "core". When you do a workout, most of the time in order to do the workout right you have to strengthen your core. The middle of your body, that's where your strength comes from to balance the rest of your body in your exercises.

Same with the journey - it maybe filled with trials and struggles and attitude adjustments, but these are and can be part of a growing process. God doesn't waste anything, even side tracks. These are not fun times, but we must press through them and continue to be faithful! Romans 11:29 says:.....for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Philippians 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

God is looking for those who continue to be faithful to Him. No matter what the circumstance.

We also need to be careful HOW and WHAT we pray for others - always seeking God first, not our own (to us) obvious answers to a presented problem. See, just because we think it's supposed to be this way, because that's where we are at or that's what we think is the right thing, doesn't necessarily mean that it lines up with God's perfect will. I've made that mistake praying for friends what I thought would be right for them - when instead I should always simply pray for God's will and for His direction to be made clear to them, for them to hear and understand where He is guiding and for them to see His open doors for the right opportunities, healing, provision and connections that are initiated by Him alone.

Psalm 18 Subscribe To My Blog (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

I always loved Psalm 18. We read parts of that in church Sunday. What a great reminder how God comes to the aid of His beloved children when we cry out to Him in distress.......

We may not be surrounded by an army trying to kill us like King David was (vs4-5), but all too often we feel the weight of life, bills and work/family problems are just as overwhelming, coming in at us from all sides like an army ready to devour.....
So even in this distress we can call upon our Lord to help us through and ask for His wisdom in dealing with all things according to His will. He just may shake the earth (vs 7) to come to our aid.....f

The key call upon the Lord!

Serious Words From God about Eternity Subscribe To My Blog (RSS)(Click this icon to Subscribe)

This is a word to my people concerning the word and time called "Eternity"

My people, and others, have read and heard that word 'Eternity', but they have very little understanding of how long Eternity really is, so today I am going to give to you an example whereby you can better understand how long Eternity is.

If I, as your God, would make a mountain 80,000 ft. high of solid rock; and I, as God, would have a bird take a handkerchief in it's bill and drag it across the top of that mountain of rock, once every thousand years, when that friction of that handkerchief wore that mountain down to the level of the ground all around it, the first second of Eternity had not even begun.

It is that Eternity into which you will enter when you die, and you will either spend it here in heaven with Me and My Son Jesus, or you will spend it with the devil and his demons in the fire and brimstone of hell that I created for them when they rebelled against Me.
If at death you go to hell, you will never-never-ever have another chance to make another decision to be released from hell and come up here to be with Us in heaven. Your destiny will be sealed.

But let it be known unto you who are not already born again into My family and your name written in My Son's Book of Life - I have it written in My Word, the book you refer to as the Bible - that you are living at the time when you can receive the benefits of the death of my Son Jesus on the cross, where He shed His blood for the sins of all mankind, so they can receive My forgiveness for all their past sins and be "born again" of Water and Spirit into My family and if you endure until your death (with the help of my indwelling Holy Spirit) you will be with Me in heaven for all Eternity.

If for some reason you are not born again into My family, and you are not absolutely sure of having received the full salvation purchased by My Son on the Cross with His blood and you are wondering what you must do – do as My servant Peter told the people to do on the day of Pentecost when they heard the message Peter told them and they cried out to Peter "Men and brothers, what must we do??"

Peter under the anointing of My Spirit told them: "Repent and be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit which is promised unto you and your children and to him that are afar off"

If you are having difficulty to make that decision for any reason but you sincerely desire to do so, cry out to Jesus and he will help you to do so.
Also let it be known unto you that this is the way to fulfill my requirement "ye must be born again of Water and Spirit to enter into the kingdom of God"

These are My Words for you today.

I Am Almighty God......but I want to be your Heavenly Father!
